Understand and Power Pack Your Firefox! - Part 2

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Welcome to this second part of the series of Understand and Power Pack Your Firefox. The first part of this series can be found @ Understand and Power Pack Your Firefox! - Part 1. Well, In this part I am going to explain why exactly Firefox is a better browser than others & we will also have another cool set of firefox extensions. Now, there will be lot of people who will say that it's just another article on that browser war and I will say NO. It really doesnt matter with which browser you are surfing the internet but it's about wheather are you surfing with 100% force and security, by force over here I mean wheather are you surfing with ease and wheather you know what you are doing on internet and what is happening to your computer. We'll go in deep as this technical article will enlighten your knowledge.

Security : Yes, This is the biggest point of Firefox and that is it is a much secure browser. The reason why it is more secure is because it doesnt support ActiveX and which is considered to be the main cause of problems for the people. Also, it does'nt use Microsoft's Java VM which itself has some security problems. And, the biggest point is that it is not integrated with Windows so even if someone gets to find out holes and bugs in Firefox, they wont be able to take control over the whole Operating System.
Just not this there are lots and lots of people who believe that Firefox is the most secure browser and SCANIT (a security company) also believes it, you can visit there online guide on what to do when browser is Hijacked and see the very first POINT!

Less Bugs
: Well, it is a fact that if a software is big and has lot of coding in it then it is bound to have more bugs than the one which is smaller in size and weight. It is just not me who is saying this you can ask any programmer and he'll confirm this for me :). And this point is true in the case of Firefox. It is way smaller than other browsers and only weights around 5 MB and if you compare it with other browser Giant then you'll notice that the difference is very big in size.

Build For Standards :
Firefox has great support for W3C standards like CSS, DOM, etc. and it is considered as the best in all the other browsers available.

Well, these are some of the biggest reasons why exactly Firefox has become the world fav. in such a short time period. If in case you are still wondering and thinking that what else you can know more about firefox then simple go to Google or any other search engine and make a quick search on anything related to firefox..may be "why firefox is better".

After, all these good points I present you with one great URL which will certainly help you in gaining more knowledge related to firefox and will keep you updated as well and that is Firefox Facts.

Now, we come to that part of this technical guide which will tell you which extensions to use with firefox for a better browsing experience :

GreaseMonkey : This is a very usefull extension of all time. The best thing is that it is not confined to a specific function as it can perform hundreds and thousands of functions with the help of small javascripts. It's basic function is to add functionality to a webpage which may not be provided by the webpage owner. It is very difficult to explain the power of this extension. You can only understand the power and usefullness by using it. There is a place where you'll find hundreds of small scripts which will help you in gaining control over certain functions which you might need and the URL of the website is http://www.userscripts.org .Unfortuanately, there cant be any preview of this extension as it is not confined to a specific function.

IE Tab : No matter how popular Firefox will become but still the major market share is with Internet Explorer and there are sites which demand you to visit the site using Internet Explorer only. so, this extension allows you to visit those sites from within Firefox itself. It starts to use Internet explorer as the rendering engine.
