Why Amazon.com Inc ditched Google Inc. ?

Thursday, May 04, 2006

Google Inc. has recently got a shocker from Amazon.Com Inc. when latter decided to stop using the Google's search engine in their A9.com portal. Amazon has now tied up with Microsoft for their Live.com search engine and now the search results on A9.com are powered by Live.Com . Now, the question comes that why Amazon did this and what are the reasons behind ?

Well, there can be lot of reasons behind this major change and lot of speculations are made on this turn around.
This is what David Tennenhouse (chief executive of A9.com) has to say about it:
"Our engineers have done some testing and evaluation, and overall we concluded this was an interesting option to discover information"
This is what Chief executive has to say but is that the only reason for the change, because it will be hard to beleive that a search engine which is still in Testing Phase is much more improved than Google's search engine. Most of the people are thinking it as revenge of Amazon.com because Google has entered into Google Books & has started Google Base and thus Google can be a threat to this WebStore.

Or can there be a reason that Microsoft has actually developed a better search engine in form of Live.Com and will soon take over people's current taste of search and that is Google.

It will be very difficult to say this but most likely it is the first thing which seems to be true at this point of time. What is your point of view on this major change?

I've used A9 for a while. A couple of days after they made their switch, I did a search for "google personalized home" ... and got no results. When I searched "google", I got just www.google.com and nothing else. Any combination of "google" and any other words -- nothing. Looks like it's better now, but it make me laugh/cringe.
