Microsoft Shows Beta Homepage!

Monday, July 24, 2006

Microsoft has launched the Beta or a tester homepage. The homepage can be viewed at HomePage Preview. It is to be noted that the preview is working only in Internet Explorer at this point of time and it is giving an error while you browse through Firefox and same is the case with Opera.

The new homepage has changed the navigation and overall working of the site. Now, the site has small window like concept i.e. when someone clicks on the navigation on the right hand side they'll be able to see a small window poping up (not a new window, you can call it a frame or you can call it a layer or whatever) and that contains the information about the microsoft products.

There is a nice effect as well, when someone clicks on the navigation on the right hand side the background get blurred.

I personally liked the homepage as it is more easy to use and it is clean as well in the design.

This is how the new page looks like :

Look, how the background get blurry when we click on the navigation on the right hand side and this small layer window appears up with some further navigation :

This is the screenshot of the error which we get on Firefox & Opera (the screenshot is of opera) :

By the way, It even fails to validate at this point of time : Validate the New Microsoft Page. But that is fine, it is still in development so we can simply trust Microsoft that they'll fix up the errors soon & will make the new homepage live soon!

I can access the page by masking Opera as IE but the page doesn't seem to work.

Well that is most likely because microsoft may have used browser identification script, even though it will pose as IE, it will announce itself as Opera only!
