Anyway, coming back to the business and that is the service which we are going to talk about today, it is a service which will help people do the online meetings & I am calling it a Web 2.0 service because it is doing almost the same function which Windows Netmeeting performs.
Here is the review of Vyew (http://www.vyew.com) :
What is Vyew ?
Vyew (pronounced as View) is a service which allows users to do online conferencing and allows the visual communication with the need of downloading any software or client because it is completely browser-based. It allows users to share the desktop, files, documents, presentations and provides the tools for annotation, whiteboarding, slideshows etc.
What is the use of Vyew ?
There are different kind of people and all of them have different needs and with this view in mind Vyew has mentioned certain uses of Vyew for different categories of people. Here are the possibilities with vyew :
* Business Uses
* Educational Uses
* Personal Uses
So, whatever role you are playing you can find the use of Vyew in your day to day life. Certainly, the possibilities are endless but one will have to be creative to find out what exactly they want and they can do with Vyew.
Review Of Vyew :
Interface : The interface of Vyew is good however it is not the best of the inferface. I know integrating many featuers in a small interface is a challenging task however it could have been achieved in a better way. Some how I feel that the interface should have been something like Adobe Photoshop where the tools and workspace are different windows and can be dragged in the given space. However, Vyew has got interface similar to MS PAINT where it has tools and workspace attached to each other and the extra feature which Vyew has over MS PAINT is that Vyew can be shared and has chat (just kiddin', I am not comparing Vyew with MS PAINT). What I want to say is that the interface is not the cleanest as it can be improved a lot. However I will say that it will get atleast 3 Dinos on the interface part.
Features : There are lot of features in Vyew and all of them make the web meeting a pleasure, I won't mention all the features however I will definitely mention the features which are worth. The best feature is that it allows users to share their desktop and take the snapshot of the screen and let it share with other users. There are many other featuers and some of them are :
* Browser Based : Yes! that is true no user needs to download or install anything on their machine, they just need the popular browsers to use the service. The reason I used the term popular and not compatible is because that the popular word over here covers more than 95% of the browser market share.
* White board : You draw something and the other users in meeting will be able to see it in real time.
* Image Import : Images can be imported from Yahoo photos, Kodak Gallery & Flickr.
* Files Upload : Various files can be uploaded which can be a certainly helpful feature while users are in the meeting.
* Resuming of sessions : It allows users to resume the meeting and get the complete work again even if they exit the meeting in the middle.
* Chat & phone conference : It allows users to chat which is the most important function of any meeting.
* Google Share : This is one feature which impressed a lot as it shows the search done by one user to all the other users and thus can be helpful when someone wants to get the best result from the web.
There are more features...but I don't want to go into the depth of all of them, I am sure if these features didn't impress someone then he/she doesn't need the service at all.
Ease Of use : Vyew can be a bit confusing at starting but once a user gets into it (which anyone will do, no doubt about it) they'll find it pretty easy to use. It is just the start of the program which can be difficult in starting.
Well, overall the service seems to be interesting and seems to me that it will give a new dimensions to web collaboration and sharing. As I said earlier that the possibilities with Vyew seems to be good however it is a user who will need to find out how they can make use of this wonderful service.
Rating : 4 Dinos out of 5. It has got 4 Dinos because of vast list of features, uniqueness and missed 1 dino because of a little poor interface.
