...When Analytics Company Uses Google Analytics!

Thursday, July 27, 2006

Hmm..most of the webmasters must have heard about the news that FeedBurner has acquired an analytics company called BlogBeat. BlogBeat is a company which provides Real time blog statistics and has gained the buzz after Feedburner acquired it. Anyway, My question is whether to use or not to use a company which doesn't use it's own service!

Yes, I was surprised to notice that BlogBeat is using Google Analytics and not their own service. It's kind of funny but that's the truth.

How I found about it ?

Well, while I was checking my feedburner account, I noticed on the blog of feedburner that they acquired blogbeat, a real time blog statistic company. So, I became curious about it and though of using the service but I noticed that now they are not offering any more signups as they will be providing analytics through Feedburner only.

Out of curiosity, I went ahead and clicked on SIGN IN and voila, I notice Google analyics in the status bar. That confirmed that Blogbeat is using Google Analytics to keep a track of users and all other stuff.

Now, If you notice in the screenshot, you'll see the line I am talking about in the RED, In the lower left hand corner......Got it? :) (click on the image for a larger view)

So, what will you do ? Use a service like this or not ?

Um, Blogbeat is an analytics service specifically for blogs. It requires knowledge of a syndication feed to break its data down by posts.

The Blogbeat home page is not a blog. It's a normal web site without a syndication feed, so Blogbeat wouldn't be a good choice for tracking traffic to the site because that's not what it's built for.
