Digg or Netscape Will Beat Search Engines In Future!

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

Web is changing fast these days and we are heading towards Web 2.0 . Back in 90's when Internet was evolving and increasing at a fast pace (as usual), people started to find problem in searching the information on the Internet and this problem gave birth to Search Engines as a solution. Search engines like Google grew from a small search engine and from a concept to millions of dollars company. But now, things are taking a deep and important change in the web and that change is Socializing.

I remember that in early days, people never wanted to share their information on the web so freely as they are doing these days and Blogs have helped tremendously in this. Anyway, people still hesitate to share the information on the internet but not completely. They now want to share the information and find people who share the same interests. This not only helps others but is helping the person who is sharing the information, as he may get in touch with a person who may be knowing something different about the topic or the interests they share.

This Socializing gave birth to many websites and some of them are at the TOP OF THE CHARTS and helping people move from their success tune. Some of these websites are :

1. Digg
2. Netscape
3. Del.icio.us
4. To be honest there are many many services on the web which are now utilizing the social feature of the web and it will extremely difficult to name them all...I am sure that most of us must be using the social website services, so you can imagine the name of the service you use in this 4th place. :)

Now, what I feel is that these companies can actually beat many search engines untill & unless the search engines companies change the working and insert the social features in their products.

Why, I feel so!

The reason due to which I feel that these social websites (the ones which are running on Digg Concept) can actually beat the search engines is that these websites not only have the search capabilty but they have a unique feature of letting users decide about what they want to know and what they want to read. This is achieved with the help of voting and due to which the top stories are shown on the main page of these websites. They also show you the related stories, so that in case you find a story which can help but misses something, you may find more information through the related story.

There are tools in these websites like tagging, voting, comments which actually help user find the information really really fast and thus reach the information quickly and on top of it, reach the people who share the same interest! This not only helps them get the information but additional help as well.

At this point of time Google is the world's No.1 Search engine and people use it to find the information on the web but that day is not far when these websites may top Google in this field. However, Google is not stupid and I am sure that they'll be already working on some of these social aspects and will be incorporating in their search engine.
