Google Gives Away Free Internet Connection!

Thursday, August 17, 2006

Google has finally covered whole of Mountain View area with Wi-Fi network and has started to give free internet connection to everyone living or passing by in/from that area. Google Wifi is powered by 802.11 B/G wireless routers and anyone with a laptop and wireless network card can use the internet connection for free!

Google has also created a map, which shows the places where they have installed the wireless routers and the places which are yet to be covered in that area. Here's the link to the map : Mountain View Coverage Map.

Now, Don't you feel that it would have been nice if your city had Google Headquarters :). Anyway, apart from the jokes, this is a very bold step from Google as giving away free internet connection is not an easy thing. Consider this situation, where people like me have the capability of consuming 1 GB of data in one day and there are many others who can even top that number. Most likely, Google must have applied certain restrictions but they've not revealed that yet. It is not possible for me to know as Wireless technology is still not so advanced (he he, it can't cover countries :P), so it will be someone from Mountain View area who will be able to comment on the quality of the service and about the restrictions.
