FireFox The Most Buggy Browser Of First Half Of 2006!

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

According to the Symantec's twice-yearly Internet Security Threat Report, hackers have found 47 bugs in Mozilla's Firefox and tops the chart of those browsers whose bugs were exploited by the hackers. Internet Explorer was second in the list with 38 bugs on its side and then comes Apple's Safari with 12 bugs and then came opera with 7 bugs.

The interesting thing is that all the browsers had more bugs than the last year's first half except Opera. It was only Opera whose bugs declined as that of last year's first half (It had 9 bugs last year as compared to this year's 7).

However, it is to be noted that it was Mozilla's Firefox only which also topped the chart of providing the fix of the bugs quickly. Mozilla came out with the fixes just within 24 hrs. where as Microsoft took around 9 days! Opera took almost 2 days to come up with the fixes and Apple also did a fair job by providing the fixes in 5 days.

The report suggests that there is no browser at this point of time which can be considered as the safest browser and that the bugs can easily be used by the hackers to achieve what they want to achieve. So, just using a browser which is less known or is not popular amongst the hackers can't make it safe. Although, yes the percentage of attacks will be less on that browser but it is not the only solution.

It is also advicable to use a browser at high security and it must be plugged with additional security tools to cope up with any kind of hacking attack. The best way of getting rid of various attacks is to use the softwares like SandboxIE and then run the browser in it. SandboxIE will keep the changes made by any hack attempt in itself and will not affect the main operating system.

Another suggestion is that please make sure that you update your browsers as fast as possible and try not to use the Beta version of the browsers as they have many bugs than one can expect. Only and only use the most stable version of the browser.
