Play Google Videos Without Google Video Player!

Friday, September 22, 2006

Google Videos allows users to download the free or purchased videos however, it only allows users to play the videos in Google Video Player. Nathan Weinberg of blognews channel found out that Google Video files (*.GVI) are nothing but standard AVI files only.

Despite of being the starndard video file format when you'll try to play the video in Windows Media Player you'll not be able to play the file. However, if you try to play the file using Windows Media Player Classic then you can play the file by just changing the extension from GVI to AVI.

Nathan also posted the screenshots of one of the videos which he played in Google Video Player and then played the same file in Windows Media player :

and the screenshot of the same file but whose extension was changed is this :

Nathan found out that it is not possible to play the file in Windows Media player but most of the players were able to play the renamed file, so go ahead and play the files by changing the extensions in any of the video player other than Windows Media Player in case you do'nt want to install Google Video Player.
