Writely Will Soon Have Single Sign-on!

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

In an email from Writely, users are being notified that soon the users will be using their Google account to login to writely instead of the different sign-on information for writely. So, now the users will be able to use the password of their Gmail account to login to the online word processor.

Dear mayankgupta.com,

In a few days, we will update your Writely account to use your mayankgupta.com{at}gmail.com Google Account registration settings.

This means you'll need to use your Google Account password when signing in, not your Writely password (if they're different).

If you've forgotten your Google Account password, just go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd

Thanks!
Google Writely Team

This is the email which I recieved. So, finally things will be changing in web 2.0 and this will certainly create the buzz. The reason for the buzz will be that people will think out of the box and will love to relate this move from Google to something which Google may not be thinking of [he he, it is one thing which I am also going to do ;)].

What I think that this particular move will allow Google users to use the service much closely. It depends on the integration of the Google. I suppose Google must integrate writely with Gmail if not completely but they can always integrate it partially or can provide a link just like they have inserted the link of calender and spreadsheets. If at all, they'll integrate it with Gmail i.e. letting people open up the document files directly through writely will be a nice move from them. What do you think how Google can make use of its different services together?
