Google Reader Gets Major Redesign!

Sunday, October 01, 2006

Google has recently made a major change in the Google Reader's design. Now, it is more like traditonal RSS or Newsreaders, just like bloglines, news gator etc. I.e. now, it shows the subscirbed feeds on the left hand side and displays the content on the right hand panel. The good thing about the new design is that because it has got the traditional design, so it becomes much easier to access the news. We all know that people are reluctant to changes and that's why, anyone will prefer the simple way of reading things rather getting the new and weird interface.

Although, I loved the bubble like thing but still the access of the feeds was simply rubbish in the earlier design. The new design has the tree like interface and that makes gives better accessbility to the feeds.

The settings page has also changed and now people can unsubscribe to various feeds without any problem at once. Another, change was that now Google is calling the LABELS as TAGS in Google Reader and it seems to me that Philipp Lenssen is not happy about it as he thinks that a consistent naming must be kept by Google.

The new design has got really nice options but I believe that it still needs lots of improvement and it must try to incorporate various features just like bloglines has got with it. What do you think about the new design change?
