Find My Credit Card!

7 November 2006

Find my credit cardEveryone of us is concerned about security and equally concerned about privacy as well. We will never want that someone on the internet gets access to our information, which we unintentionally left on our computer and that too while doing the day to day internet surfing. The details can be your credit card number, username, password, bank account details etc. The problem with these traces is that they can reveal a lot about us and how exactly we live our life and that anyone can misuse that information, if they get hold of that information.

The problem is that the anti-spyware softwares are of no use in this case as, they can’t remove these kind of information. However, thankfully we’ve got such a software with us, which actually helps in removing all these sensitive information securely from the computer and that too for free.

Find My Credit Card is such a software and the good thing is that it is available for free absolutely free. The software scans the important areas of your browser’s folders and displays the important information, which you left unintentionally while surfing and then gives the option of removing that information. It currently supports Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape only.

The software is just 670 Kb only and easy to install & the use is extremely easy. Although, it shows you some advertisements at the time of closing it but then also gives the option of not showing the ads again. It does its work pretty impressively and it is a must download for everyone.

Tabmix plus logoI’m sure that most of the Firefox lovers must be aware of the extension called Tab Mix Plus. If at all, you are one of those who are still sleeping or are lazy enough that you don’t care about the cool power which can be added by the Firefox extensions, then you are missing something and that you must go and have a shower as fast as possible (I know it’s a PJ) :D

Tab Mix Plus is an extension of Firefox, which gives extreme power to the tabs. It has so many options that sometimes you’ll think that you’ll need to take a class to learn all the features of this extension. Well, not really but yes I’ve to say that it is the most feature rich extension for Firefox. The best feature is that it allows users to place the tabs down below the page and I’ve got this habit of placing the tabs below the page and not at the top of the pages. Apart from that it has the options of various mouse click functions, tab renaming, undo close tab, applying passwords to the tabs and much much more.

I’ll suggest everyone to download the extension and enjoy the benefits of this extremely powerful extension for Firefox. The good thing about this extension is that now it is compatible with Firefox 2 as well. So, those people who had this extension but are not able to use because of Firefox 2 then they can upgrade the extension. You won’t have to select the settings again because it automatically picks up the old settings, which you had earlier for this extension.

phishingWe’ve discussed a lot about phishing sites before and what all steps can be taken to avoid phishing scams. This time, I would love to present you with a Firefox plugin which help you in being safe from all those nasty phishing sites.
Although, Firefox has got the anti-phishing filters but still, it is nice to have this filter because it utilizes the database of Phishtank (A community, which manages the database of phishing sites and adds the sites after verification. If you know any such phishing site, then go ahead and submit it to Phishtank.).

PhishTank SiteChecker is an extension developed by Masa (an active extension developer of various services like Gabbly, Phishtank, WordPress, Meebo etc.) for Mozilla Firefox, which warns people about the phishing attack. The good thing about this extension is that it is making the use of Phishtank’s database (Trusted source) but the bad thing is that it only depends on phishtank’s database i.e. it does’nt have the power to recognize a possible phishing site as it is still not in the phishtank’s database.

Anyway, considering the fact that Phishtank, Firefox’s phishing filters can combinephish tank plugin themselves and give added layer of protection. This is how a person is notified about the blocked website. It gives the option of viewing the details and also gives the option of viewing the website as well. Although, who would love to see a phishing website.

Please install this extension and upgrade your Firefox to the latest version i.e. Firefox 2. This plugin is compatible with Firefox 2 as well and not only that it also works with Flock. Let’s go ahead and contribute in the phishtank as well. You can not only contribute by submitting the phishing websites but also by voting and helping the community verify the submitted phishing websites.

UPDATE : Updated the links to the new homepage of phishtank sitechecker.

email etiquetteEmail, probably the most used communication mean till this date and the most addictive as well. There have been tools coming up to make the communication better like Instant messengers but Email has been rock solid and is getting hot everyday with the introduction of various cool email services like GMail, Yahoo Mail, Live Mail etc.

We all email everyday, to our friends, colleagues, relatives etc. for one or the other reason but have we ever given a thought to the fact that may be our email is not liked by someone or may be is hurting someone somewhere ? Have we ever thought that there are certain email etiquette which we all of us must follow ? If at all, your answer was “NO” or if at all you thought that THIS GUY IS A NUT, EMAIL ETIQUETTE….What the hell, he’s talking about! then I beg of you, do read this because these tips are for you only! And if at all, your answer was “YES”, then also I’ll suggest you to please read this and it will actually help you some where or the other..

Here are some of the rules which we must follow while using the emails or sending the emails to different people :

1. Never write everything in CAPTIAL LETTERS! : When you write something in all caps then it looks like as if you are shouting or may be you are commanding someone. No one on this earth will like to be treated like that. Will you?

2. Never send large email attachments : If at all you are thinking that everybody on this earth is having a high speed broadband connection or maybe a big large email accout which can hold upto 1 or 2 Gb of data, then please come out of the nice sleep. There is a huge section, which is still dealing with dialup and are using same 10 Mb old email space accounts. I know that’s hard to believe but that’s the truth.

3. Avoid the use of HTML stationary : I know those stationaries make the emails extremely cute but believe me, a person will be happy to read an email in a simple manner rather reading it with those hanging stars or dancing babies or anything funny out there, One or two images is nice but over loading with lots of images will create nothing but problems.

4. Think twice before forwarding it : We all get those cool emails, which has pictures or wallpapers of the upcoming friday release or has some GOOD LUCK or BAD LUCK STUFF and some may like them or some may not. So, before forwarding those chain mails think twice about the fact that will forwarding a simple mail will bring you good or bad luck? Think on a point that, is’nt it misusing the resources or on the biggest point that the email which I am forwarding to, will like the email content or not?

5. Run Spell Checker : I’m sure that this must have been getting easy with the integration of online spell checking in the online web based mails. Apart, from that Firefox 2.0 has the real time spell checking feature as well. If you don’t use any of the service or software, then simply copy and paste the content in Microsoft Word or any Word Processor as a fact and it will tell you, your typing mistakes. (I know, I’ve to work on this one a lot. Not just for emails but for blog posts as well)

6. Make Use Of BCC Field : If you are sending an email to many people, then please don’t forget the point that almost each and every email service or email software has the option of BCC (Blank Carbon Copy). This way, people will only come to know that it has been addressed to them and will not be able to find out that where else, it has been sent. Use it, in case of forwarded emails atleast!

7. Always Email When You Are In Happy Mood! : When you are not in a good mood, then please don’t try to email anyone. That person will actually come to know about it, that you were in a bad mood at the time of writing the email :D

rest in peachWith the release of Internet Explorer 7, many changes came in the Internet Explorer and the whole internet surfing experience. Microsoft, which has always had a big community against it but with the release of Internet Explorer 7 and various free softwares, I am sure that they’ll be making some hearts change :)

Anyway, coming back to the point. Internet Explorer 7 showed many changes from various new features to cosmetic changes. Most of the bloggers has bragged about the new security features, looks & RSS feed reader of Internet Explorer but no one has talked about one of the major change which has been with us for a very long time but not anymore :(

I’m talking about that page which we get when the sites are down or we’ve made a typing mistake in typing a URL and that infamous page is THIS PAGE CAN NOT BE DISPLAYED.

We’ve all seen this not once or twice but thousands of times in our early days of internet (do you remember dial-up age?) and then shown that angry expression after looking at that page!
It is sad to see that now that page has taken retirement and instead of that we’ve got a fresh new page which says that Internet Explorer can not display the webpage. If I remember correctly, this page is going on from Internet Explorer 4 onwards and has changed after such a long time!

page can not be displayed

Anyway, this is not a big deal though but personally I’ve been listening about that page almost everyday because of the nature of my job and may be that’s why, you can say that I’d built some attachment with that page :D Good bye! Page cannot be Displayed!
