Indicast is an Indian podcast, which is getting quite a buzz these days and is getting quite popular amongst the Indian bloggers. Amit Ranjan from WebYantra (I call him Michael Arrington of Indian Startups) has also profiled Indicast and that made me curious, to know more about Indicast. Indicast is multi-person podcast and run by two friends Aditya and Abhishek. They both stress on the point that they are no expert on news related media and that they want to deliver the news without any sugar coating.
What’s in favour of Indicast?
- Indicast reported it to Amit Ranjan that it received approximately 100,000 downloads and has been profiled by many top Indian bloggers.
- Indicast has featured on BBC and NDTV India (popular Indian news channel).
Where they’ve gone wrong ?
It seems that Indicast is monetizing through Google Adsense, now I’m not saying that it is bad to monetize through Google Adsense (Rather, it is the best way to monetize your blogs & podcasts) but what I want to stress upon is that they have violated the policy of Google Adsense and that may lead to problems for them in future.
If you notice on their podcast (Click on the images to get a better picture), you’ll find that the places where they’ve put the Adsense, they’ve written CLICK SUPPORT in those boxes. This means that if you will click on those links then you’ll be supporting Indicast. Now, this is against Google Adsense’s policy and this section of the policy confirms that too :

After completing three years, Orkut has added the video facility. If you notice, then you’ll see the link of VIDEOS on the extreme right hand side. Well, the videos can be added from either Google Video and YouTube only.
It is good that Google is allowing people to share their videos and that will certainly increase the interactivity and on top of that it will be beneficial for Google as well, as the page view count will increase drastically and that will ensure that it will lead many countries without any problem. Orkut is already on top in Brazil and guess what, it is @ number 2 position in India and this video addition will help in page views and may be Orkut will be able to leave behind the leader i.e. Yahoo. To check the ranking of the websites in India, you can visit Alexa.

Couple of days back Zoho announced Zoho Notebook as their new product and with the launch of Zoho Notebook my speculations of launch of Zoho drive have gone completely wrong. Anyway, Zoho Notebook is Private Alpha and it is available for selected users only. I was the lucky one to receive an invitation for the same and after looking at the Zoho Notebook, I can say that Zoho has done it again!
Zoho notebook is straight competition to Microsoft’s OneNote and even in the Alpha stage it looks really impressive. Zoho has focused on sharing in the past and in this product also they have focused a lot on sharing and collaboration. Zoho notebook is a web notebook (just like traditional notebook but with web elements in it.) which has pages where you can take notes, add text, images, videos, audio, zoho documents (from zoho writer, zoho sheet, zoho planner, zoho creator and zoho show), web pages, RSS feeds, attach files, HTML and can use drawing tools as well to spice up the notebook. The best feature of Zoho notebook is that it lets you record your audio and video and Zoho has made it possible by a recent collaboration with Flixn. There are so many features that it can be really difficult to explain the power of Zoho notebook through words and I think that is why Raju Vegesna thought of displaying its features through a video.
Anyway, I’m including the screenshot of Zoho notebook (courtesy Zoho) (and watch this video) to give you an idea of how exactly this product looks like and that how many features it incorporates. All in all, once this product will be released in March, it will certainly shake the whole web based office suites and I’m sure that this will certainly make life of many students, teachers and business people really easy.
