gigatribe.jpgGigaTribe is a Peer 2 Peer network based software which allows you to share files (privately) with your friends and known people with ease. GigaTribe is a French company and in December last year (i.e. 2006), they launched officially in U.S.A.

GigaTribe currently has 430,000 members and that’s quite an impressive number, lets see how this software stands and lets check out it’s PROS and CONS.

PROS of GigaTribe :

gigatribe2.jpg1. Private Sharing : The best feature of GigaTribe is that it lets you share your files with those people, who are your known ones or your friends. You can be sure that the files you are downloading are less likely to be worm or spyware (although, it is always suggested that you scan all the files using an antivirus) as compared to the files on a public P2P network.

2. No size limit : GigaTribe allows you to share the files of any size, there is no limit to the file size as compared to other file sharing programs or websites. This gives a big boost to the profile of the program because when it comes to sharing of videos then most of us wonder that how can we share such big files! But, with GigaTribe you don’t have to worry about that.

3. Transfers are encrypted : All the transfers are encrypted with Blowfish Encryption with 128-bit key. This ensures that your data is safe even while you are transferring the files over the web.

4. Transfers at maximum speed and supports resume : GigaTribe doesn’t block the transfers and it allows you to transfer the files at maximum possible speed. The good thing about it is that it support resuming of files, so just in case your internet connection breaks, it will continue to download the file from the point where the connection broke.

5. Chat with people across the network : GigaTribe has got the facility of chat as well and thus allows you to communicate with all the people across your network. Can be helpful when you want to tell someone about a particular file.

CONS of GigaTribe :

1. Not the best of interface : GigaTribe is certainly a great piece of software but it is the ease of use which matters a lot. Because the interface of GigaTribe is not user friendly, it can be a bit difficult for you to use GigaTribe at starting. However, with time you’ll be comfortable with the interface.

2. No version for Linux or MAC : GigaTribe is only available for Windows at this point of time and not for Linux or MAC. However, the website states that they are already working on it and soon they’ll release the Linux and Mac versions too.

3. Configuration : You may need configure your firewall and routers (in case you are using them) for a direct connection and this can be a bit technical (It depends on your connection type). Although, they’ve got EasyConnect feature which lets you connect with the service with ease but in this case the transfers are bit slow as they are relayed through GigaTribe’s server.

Overall Rating & Views :

GigaTribe is an extremely useful software which can help you in transferring big files over the internet without any problems. However, they need to improve a lot on the interface and must focus on making it simple to use, so simple that even new computer users should not find difficulty in using it.

Note : There are two version of GigaTribe, there is a free version and a premium version. With free version there is only one limitation and that is you can’t download multiple files at a time but you can always select the files you want to download and they’ll be downloaded one by one. There are some additional features available in premium version like setting up passwords for certain user group, level of authorization etc. Premium version costs $ 3.99 with monthly subscription or it costs $ 24.95 for life time subscription.
