GigaTribe is a Peer 2 Peer network based software which allows you to share files (privately) with your friends and known people with ease. GigaTribe is a French company and in December last year (i.e. 2006), they launched officially in U.S.A.
GigaTribe currently has 430,000 members and that’s quite an impressive number, lets see how this software stands and lets check out it’s PROS and CONS.
PROS of GigaTribe :
1. Private Sharing : The best feature of GigaTribe is that it lets you share your files with those people, who are your known ones or your friends. You can be sure that the files you are downloading are less likely to be worm or spyware (although, it is always suggested that you scan all the files using an antivirus) as compared to the files on a public P2P network.
2. No size limit : GigaTribe allows you to share the files of any size, there is no limit to the file size as compared to other file sharing programs or websites. This gives a big boost to the profile of the program because when it comes to sharing of videos then most of us wonder that how can we share such big files! But, with GigaTribe you don’t have to worry about that.
3. Transfers are encrypted : All the transfers are encrypted with Blowfish Encryption with 128-bit key. This ensures that your data is safe even while you are transferring the files over the web.
4. Transfers at maximum speed and supports resume : GigaTribe doesn’t block the transfers and it allows you to transfer the files at maximum possible speed. The good thing about it is that it support resuming of files, so just in case your internet connection breaks, it will continue to download the file from the point where the connection broke.
5. Chat with people across the network : GigaTribe has got the facility of chat as well and thus allows you to communicate with all the people across your network. Can be helpful when you want to tell someone about a particular file.
CONS of GigaTribe :

You’ve probably felt this one time or the other: You have many windows open on your taskbar – messed up – can’t hide them, can’t set them to minimize into the system tray and do other such jobs – it’s not possible by default in Windows. Why not try some third party tools to keep the windows organized ?
1. WinRoll is a tiny little application that will help you when you’re too busy with windows open all over. What it does is really simple: Right click on a Window’s Title Bar, and the window instant rolls up, and only the title bar is alone visible. You can also set the the transparency level, and also you can minimize or maximize all windows at a time easily.
This tool is great for all those busy guys out there who keep a hell lot of windows open.
Here’s a screenshot of WinRoll in action:

2. PushPin, that runs from your system tray, does a relatively simple job – and again, this may prove for practical usage. It adds an option “Always On Top” to the menu that appears when you right click on an open window’s button on the taskbar, like this:

3. TrayIt does a very simple job, but that’ll really be very useful at times when you have tens of windows open, all minimized on your taskbar. Using TrayIt, you can minimize windows straight into your system tray. You save a ton of space on your taskbar, uber clean. If you’re in a condition to open a window, can’t close it off, but only minimize it – only to find that your taskbar is already filled – use TrayIt
To minimize windows to tray, just hold the CTRL on your keyboard and press the minimize button in the window’s title bar.
Before using TrayIt :

After using TrayIt :

The above image shows windows minimized to system tray using TrayIt.
If you know of any similar tools, please share the information with us in the comments.

Zoho Notebook – the competition to Microsoft’s OneNote is now open to public but it is still in Beta. Back in February, when I got the chance of reviewing Zoho notebook (then it was in private beta), it impressed me a lot and they made me believe that it is a tough competition to Microsoft’s Onenote.
Since then, Zoho’s engineers have made great changes in the interface and now it looks much more usable. The features are almost the same and has no big difference, although, there is a plugin for Firefox which can clip webpages and make it easier for you to take notes.
Some of the features of Zoho notebook are :

Pidgin is an all in one instant messenger. Formerly known as Gaim but because AOL’s instant messenger (AIM) has similar name, they’d to change the name and they chose Pidgin. By all in one instant messenger, I mean that it supports and allows you to login to multiple networks, i.e. using Pidgin only you can access and chat with your friends on Yahoo messenger, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk and lot others. Lets look at the PROS and CONS of Pidgin. We know that it has got one huge benefit, that it is a all in one messenger but is it good or not, lets find that out :
PROS of Pidgin :
1. All in one instant messenger : This is the best feature of Pidgin as you can log in to multiple networks at one go. This not only saves you from installing multiple softwares but saves memory too. As you just have to run one software instead of all the messengers. It supports Yahoo, Windows Live Messenger, AIM, ICQ, Jabber, Gadu Gadu, IRC (these being the popular ones) and many more.
2. Less Memory Usage : Pidgin uses around 24 Mb of memory and considering the fact that it is the only software which you’ve to run for chat and not multiple softwares. This saves lots and lots of memory and people like me will certainly find it very useful.
3. Extend-able through plugins : Pidgin gets better with the help of various plugins and that gives boost to this program’s profile too. Any program which can be extended is always better than the ones which can’t have plugins. So, if you are missing a feature in Pidgin, then you can always look for a plugin for it (although you may not find the one, which you want but chances are you’ll find one or there will be one under development…always think positive).
CONS of Pidgin :

“Hacking”, a term that has actually created fears in our mind. Every night if you dream of getting your data being stolen by somebody, then this software is for you.
A website, Finecrypt.net provides a software that actually uses 12 Different algorithms to choose from to encrypt your Documents.
Most of us don’t even know of encryption and security, so lets just see what Encryption is. “The translation of data into a secret code. Encryption is the most effective way to achieve data security. To read an encrypted file you must have access to a key or password that enables you to decrypt it.” Via [ask-edi].
Ahh! the above Jargons were just to make things clear.
Now lets come to the point, how can we make our data safer. You need to first download a software from the site. The software is almost a freeware, its just that there is a limitation of 5 files at a time (you don’t need to buy this software at all). Now this software gives you an option to encrypt documents out of 12 different algorithms, as we don’t have much knowledge, we cant say which one is better, but the encryption seems to be pretty strong. i encrypted this software and submitted this to a site that claims that they can break any algorithm (secret), but that site was not able to perform the crack. So there you go, This software is surely very secure.
Next thing you will like about this software is the user interface. This Software does such huge calculations, but still has a really easy interface as it provides its users with a wizard to start with.

Apart from that, you will be given option as to what you need to do with your data. If you want to send a encrypted file over the net, then the other person should also be using this software. Then this little software attaches a public key along with it and you need to have the password to open that, rest all is done by this software.

For professionals, let me inform you that this software not only provides 12 different Algorithms but the keys generated are never used again. also if you know about the Cryptography and Algorithms then you can try to make your own keys by making changes into the code. Its easy and Much safer. Try it !!!
