Google Talk as the name suggests is the messenger which was developed by Google Inc. The first beta version of the program was released on August 24, 2005. It uses the open XMPP protocol (popularly know as Jabber) and thus allows easily to communicate with the other networks which operate on the same protocol. Google talk uses Jingle protocol for its VoIP (Voice over IP) and now lets look at the PROS & CONS of Google Talk.

PROS of Google Talk :

1. Sleek & Easy to use interface : Google Talk has got the sleekest interface ever. With simple interface, Google made sure that each and every user gets to easily access all the features. Most of the features are available through the personal message window.

2. Interoperability : Google Talk is based on XMPP protocol and thus it is possible for members of other networks (which are using XMPP protocol) to communicate with Google Talk users without worrying about signing up for Google talk.

3. Directly linked with Gmail : This is one of my favorite features. Google talk is directly linked to the Gmail account and thus any chat which is done over Google Talk is automatically saved in Gmail account and thus the chat can be referred at any point of time. Who doesn’t know that Gmail has already got a sleek version of Google Talk embedded in it and that gives another point to this service.

4. Voice calls & other useful features : Google talk has got facility to make voice calls and you’ll be surprised to see the clarity of the voice. Other features like File transfer, Photo sharing, Video sharing are some of the features which make it a useful application. It has got inbuilt Gmail notification and thus notifies you if you get any email on Gmail. For those who are into social networking with the help of Orkut will love the Scrap notification as well.

5. Light Weight and easy on memory : Google talk is so a very light weight application and right now just taking 13 Mb of memory in my computer. Which is very less as compared to other applications.

According to the the campaign Infected or Not, which is run by Panda Software, more than 50 % PCs are infected from Malware’s even though there was an antivirus software installed on the machines.

The report is shocking and the bad thing is that the number is increasing with every update and the update is done every 15 minutes. The campaign was started by Panda labs with the intention of finding out the infected PCs and so that they can display the stats and the stats actually show most of us need awareness about the security of the computers from these malwares.

Now, I’m not an advocate of one single piece of security software at all and I’ll never ever suggest anyone to keep single security software, as no single security software can give you complete protection over the internet and thus I’ll suggest you to go through these posts and make sure that you can keep yourselves safe from the threats :

Apart from that, the free scan run by Panda labs ensures that not only, it finds the infections but it also lets you clean the problems and that too for free however, just requires a free registration for that. There are two levels of scan, a simple scan and the other is deep scan. I’ll suggest everyone to go for the deep scan.

Why should I go for the scan ?

Well, there are couple are reasons for that and both are useful not only for you but for others as well and here are the reasons :

1. If you use any other antivirus then you get to see the difference between the current antivirus solution you are using and the Panda’s technology. Not only that, you get a free option of using another software (Just for your benefit…isn’t it ?)

Who doesn’t know about Yahoo Messenger ? I’m sure there will be hardly any who must not be knowing about this software. It is one of the most commonly used messenger and the reason is that Yahoo is still the biggest Dot Com company and has the biggest user base as compared to other giants. Lets find out more about this messenger and lets see how it stands as compared to other services :

PROS of Yahoo Messenger :

1. Reach of Yahoo Messenger : The biggest PRO of Yahoo is that it has got the biggest user base as compared to any other internet giant. It’s available in almost each and every country and almost all the internet users are using it’s services in one way or the other. Most of the people prefer Yahoo messenger because most of their contacts have got Yahoo messenger and thus you’ll find most of your friends on this network.

2. Ease of Use : The interface of Yahoo messenger is good enough to make even new users of the computers, to use it without any problems. Most of the features are available through the menu on the top and even the right click menu is quite handy as it gives access to commonly used features.

3. Voice & video chats & Conferencing : Yahoo messenger has got the facility of making voice calls to other Yahoo users for free and on top of it, it has got video chat facility with the help of a web cam. The good thing is that it lets you conference as well and that gives the ability to chat simultaneously with 2 or more friends.

It lets you skin itself too. So, just in case one is not happy with the interface can go ahead and look for a better interface.

5. Available for Unix & MAC and Web : Yahoo messenger is not just PC based software, it is available for Macintosh and Unix based computers as well. Although, the review written over here is strictly based on PC based version. For those, who are not using any of those and prefer Linux can make use of Web based messenger as well and that’s one cool feature of Yahoo messenger.

6. Small & Useful features : Yahoo messenger has got lots and lots of features and thus mentioning each and everyone is not possible. But, the ones which are worth mention are in this list. It lets you send files to other users through file transfer feature and the speed is genuinely fine. Stealth settings is one feature, which I can’t live without as it lets you keep yourself as invisible (even though you are online but will appear as offline) and that too at per user level basis. Lets you make PC – to – Phone calls, with the help of VoIP and the charges are really low as compared to any other service. Photo sharing, Games are some other features which make it stand out from other messengers.
