This is something which I’ve always wanted to do or preffered that if the social network services offered this services directly. Unfortunately, NO SOCIAL NETWORK (there are so many out there) offers such a service. What I am talking about here is that if Social Networks could offer the users to specify or link the domain name directly with their social network profile.
The reason or why it makes sense :
1. Social Network profile is more like a personal webpage : Everyone will agree that Social network profile is more like a personal webpage, where you’ve got information about you, your friends and family. You get to upload your photos, videos and with some networks you can have your own blog too. So, it makes sense if I can point my personal domain name (mayankgupta.com to my social network profile) and thus ask friends and family members to use that domain directly.
2. It is much easier to remember : Of course it is much easier to remember the profile name if it’s associated with the domain, rather than remembering those strange and long profile addresses. There are cases, when you search for friend’s family from that long list of friends, in this case you just have to put the URL of the person and you get the profile directly!

When it will come to choosing the best extension of the year for WordPress or if asked my opinion about any extension then I’ll choose WordPress Automatic Update (WPAU). This plugin automatically updates your WordPress to the latest version and it follows exactly the same steps which are mentioned in the WordPress upgrade guide.
Here’s what WPAU is capable of :
1. Backs up the files and makes available a link to download it.
2. Backs up the database and makes available a link to download it.
3. Downloads the latest files from http://WordPress.org/latest.zip and unzips it.
4. Puts the site in maintenance mode.
5. De-activates all active plugins and remembers it.
6. Upgrades WordPress files.
7. Gives you a link that will open in a new window to upgrade installation.
8. Re-activates the plugins.
I think Keith has done a wonderful job and deserves the appreciation from almost each and every WordPress user

This is the second interview of the series and this time I present you Shankar Ganesh. Most of us know about him but for those who don’t know, they can find out more about him and find out that what are the secrets of his blogging :
1. Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers first?
I’m Shankar Ganesh from Tamil Nadu, and I’m doing my 11 Std. I love reading tech stuff, and I hope to pursue a career in computer technology. That’s all I can say about me :D
2. Tell us more about your blog: when & how you came into blogging ?
Well, I actually started blogging at Blogspot around December 2006 and then switched to a new domain at shankarganesh.com around April this year. I was reading many blogs then, and I just thought of starting one. I started writing initially on my web 2.0 sites and others on my blog, and now I cover a wider range of topics.
3. What are your goals for your blog & what benefits do you see in blogging ?
Regarding goals: I expect to get a very wide reader base at least by the end of this year. And also some decent money ;)
Benefits are quite a lot – like, you get to know about different people around, you get to know about more things etc.
4. What sets you apart from other blogs ?
The thing that sets my blog apart from other ones is that I don’t write the same stories again – about those that get featured on other major blogs like TechCrunch and others. Earlier, I used to do that. Now, I don’t, that much. I’m now interested only in providing some good tips to my readers on many technology and blogging related topics.
5. Do you have any suggestions for other bloggers or any success secret, which you’d like to share with us ?

You may have noticed that my blog posting frequency dipped and same goes with comments too. It’s not that I’m short of any blog posts (I review softwares and there are endless softwares which I can review).
The reason for the absence was that I was constantly trying hard to install Linux on my computer. Well, to be honest I was able to install Linux (Ubuntu) but couldn’t make the internet connection work
I’m very new to Linux but thanks to Google, I was able to find out the relevant articles all the time and with their help, I got to install the Wireless card on this Linux Distro (Although, my Wireless card (Netgear WG311v3) doesn’t have any Linux drivers). I made use of ndiswrapper to install the windows drivers on the Ubuntu Linux.
