StreetAdvisor, an Australian startup which went live few months back is a rating service which lets you rate your street and your neighborhood. The rating system provides you the detailed information about the neighborhood or the street and the information like Vibe, Wired, Health, Value & Essentials (for e.g. Vibe has information about night life, neighborhood spirit etc. Wired has information about Internet connectivity, cell phone coverage etc.). There are around 20 + rating factors but you can just give an average rating in those 5 main categories.
You can upload videos, photos and share information like phone numbers of essential services. That section is more like a Wiki and can help you in making the decision about the switch. The social elements are always there like StreetSHOUT where you can just shout anything or get answers to your question from the community or street members.
StreetAdvisor uses Google Maps for the location of the streets and this street search engine is not confined to streets only. Lets say, I plan to change the city and I don’t have much of the information about the new city then I can easily click on the City name and get the aggregated information (information from all the streets of that city) about the whole city and that ways I can easily decide, that in which part of the city I want to live. Personally, I would say that after looking at this feature, I started to like the service.
Unfortunately, this service isn’t available in India, so I can’t reap the benefits of this service, un-till I decide to move from here (not likely any soon) but I would want this service to come in India as fast as possible. However, the success of this service is directly related to amount of data it will have. After all, who’ll like to search where they won’t find any thing to search ? The company is working on collecting the data and marketing it with various promotional offers like by giving away iPod, Apple Mac book etc. I firmly believe that this service will be huge hit, if they can get the right amount of data.
What do you think about StreetAdvisor, please do share your thoughts.

@ CristianR :I’m sure it will certainly come in handy while planning to move. I loved the service a lot but as I said, it has to come to India before I can make use of it :).
@ Ashok : The concept is one of its kind and I can see the potential in them. I had a word with the CEO and it seems that they are going to make it a huge success!
