makaan On the eve of Independence day, People interactive has finally given independence to the long awaited makaan.com. Makaan.com looks impressive portal and it will be interesting to see that how they’ll compete with existing bigger players i.e. 99acres.com and MagicBricks.com

The impressive thing about Makaan.com is that how they are highlighting your property and the ways through which they allow you to advertise yourself across the whole site. You as an Individual can get advertised on the search results specific to certain cities or where your property is listed.

From the usability point of view makaan.com looks really good. They’ve made sure that a property searchers gets to their desired property in the quickest way. One feature which I liked the most was that they allow you to send the SMS to the concerned person by just filling out a simple form. Let’s say you are interested in a property and you want to contact that person, then you can simply select the option of SMS and the person will be notified that you are interested in the property and will get the options to contact you.

makaan-feature

They’ve kept most of the options when you want to advertise the property and that also helps you in making the decision as a buyer, for e.g. while buying or renting a property, you would be interested in knowing that if the place has power back, security, club, swimming pool or any other add-on, all those options are listed near the property.

Although, I would have loved it a lot, if they would have allowed the property owners to upload Videos of the property too. As a buyer, I would love to see the place and if I can get to see that online and that too without visiting the place then it will be an added bonus. I understand that if you are interested in a property then you’ll go ahead and see that place first but what if you become interested in 10 different properties then you’ll need to visit all those 10 places to see which ones better but if you could see the videos then I’m sure you’ll be able to narrow that number down to some extent. So, this feature is essential from the usability point of view. If they can do it, then I’m sure they’ll be able to give some real tough competition in the online real estate websites.

They are allowing you to put your property in their database for free but for a limited time period and I think those who are looking to sell or rent their property must make use of this service.

I think they’ll be able to give good competition to already established 99acres and MagicBricks because Makaan.com is not by any startup, this portal is by one of the leading web companies of India, so they’ll be able to make use of all the advertising options and will make this a success.

What do you think that will this service be able to get the same success which Shaadi.com got?

I think they will be able to replicate the success of shaadi.com. They have a sure advantage in name “Makaan.com” which is a generic term for property.

To top it up they have very neat and clutter free design as compared to other such portals.

I agree with you that the ways through which they allow you to advertise yourself across the whole site is amazing. They allow you to create your own banners. Lets see how Indian Users react to this.

@ Himanshu : Even I agree that Makaan.com name will help them a lot because this name will strike a persons head faster than 99acres or magicbricks. Shaadi.com had the same advantage too.

I personally feel that makaan.com will be a great success, as this portal is by one of the leading web companies of India, so they’ll be able to make use of all the advertising options and will make this a success.

Also the home page of makaan.com is really better then 99 acres and magic bricks.

Also, some features are really very user friendly.

‘Makaan.com’ a great stature of People Group.
Yet again the group has shown its excellence in conceptualization of idea/opportunity, product development, and of course choosing the un beatable domain name “makaan.com”…..
I am sure with these excellence & the topping of best field warriors makaan.com WILL conquer the mountain of success……

Coinsiding launch with Independence day could be a good symbolic gesture. But seems they are inspired by google the way they have handled the logo.

@ Rupesh : I agree that the homepage has got much cleaner look as compared to others.

@ Maneesh : no doubt the domain name is unbeatable and represents the functionality of the service.

    @ Technobuzz : I’ll say…YET ANOTHER competitor to 99acres and magic bricks :)

@ Sumit : Well, this trend has become popular and companies like reditt, yahoo seem to follow it too.

Checked realacres.com after I saw them nominated in Red Herring Top 100 Asia 2007, well, compared magicbricks, 99acres and indiaproperty with realacres…but this site is having a charm and user friendly interface…must say they made it to Red Herring…

Another one in the pack. One of the 20 or more comapnies that are doing the same thing. Real estate is not about nice websites but actual business. I would have liked reviewsaurus to say more on their business model and how it can help me buy a home. Anyways.

@ Rohit : I agree that they are doing the same thing but eventually you get copy cats of every successful business. Makaan is also a copy however, they tried giving a better interface and yes they are also helping in making sure that the competition stays on.

Imagine what would have happened if there was only 1 real estate site, they would have charged more and more. I’m sure at that time your comment would have said, Why people don’t create a competition to this 1 single real estate portal. We should have more of them.
