But, do we actually create those simple and easy to remember passwords ? Well, there are many friends of mine who have revealed their passwords and I’ve got to say that I had an Idea, that it will be their password. The reason, they kept the password as their Girl Friend’s name :D. Anyway, Nirmal has mentioned some really good points which tell you that what you should do, while setting up a password :

  1. Never use your personal information as password.
  2. Do not use actual word.
  3. Use combination of words and characters.
  4. Do not use same passwords for all.
  5. Change your password frequently.

Greasemonkey

Greasemonkey is a Firefox plug-in which helps in adding hacks (functionalities will be the right word) in various websites and web services. It lets you do various things pretty quickly and helps in removing ads from the websites too. This is achieved by the help of Javascripts and that’s where the security threat also sneaks in.

Javascripts can be used for various exploits and here are some of the things which malicious javascripts can do & a simple Google Search about Malicious Javascripts will give your detailed information about it :

  1. Malicious Javascripts can steal cookies which can contain some important information.
  2. They can scan the files in the hard drive and even steal them.
  3. They can give commands to router and in turn remove the security settings of the router and open the gates of the network completely.

However there are few things which we can do to prevent any loss :

Streetadvisor logoStreetAdvisor, an Australian startup which went live few months back is a rating service which lets you rate your street and your neighborhood. The rating system provides you the detailed information about the neighborhood or the street and the information like Vibe, Wired, Health, Value & Essentials (for e.g. Vibe has information about night life, neighborhood spirit etc. Wired has information about Internet connectivity, cell phone coverage etc.). There are around 20 + rating factors but you can just give an average rating in those 5 main categories.

You can upload videos, photos and share information like phone numbers of essential services. That section is more like a Wiki and can help you in making the decision about the switch. The social elements are always there like StreetSHOUT where you can just shout anything or get answers to your question from the community or street members.

Streetadvisor street info

StreetAdvisor uses Google Maps for the location of the streets and this street search engine is not confined to streets only. Lets say, I plan to change the city and I don’t have much of the information about the new city then I can easily click on the City name and get the aggregated information (information from all the streets of that city) about the whole city and that ways I can easily decide, that in which part of the city I want to live. Personally, I would say that after looking at this feature, I started to like the service.
