ReviewSaurus – Technology Rocks!

This is a long overdue review that I am writing now; of MultitrackStudio. This is one of my personal favorite workstation (Apart from my first love – my Yamaha PSR-540 of course!) which I have been using for a long time now. MultitrackStudio is an all-round powerful software capable of producing professional music. Equipped with powerful 32 bit audio processing engine, this program allows unlimited tracks adding and unlimited undo option (which I have found very useful) It also supports DirectSound and ASIO sound cards. And above all, it allows recording and editing of both audio and MIDI sounds.

And all the above is a humble 2.0 MB download!

Editing is easiest in this software.

Edit -> Cut/Copy/Paste… is all it takes to edit a track. Other options included are fade in, fade out etc.

Orkut now offers the option of writing the scraps in Hindi. We all know that how popular Orkut is in India and that Google engineers ensure that they don’t leave any chance to woo Indian crowd!

In order to ensure that you can type the scraps in Hindi, you have to perform these steps :

1. Go to Edit Profile.
2. Under the General tab and the section Languages I speak…
3. Select the language as Hindi.

Now, whenever you will type a scrap you’ll get the option of selecting the text box which says, Type in Hindi and then whenever you’ll type the Hindi words in English I.e. Hinglish then the words will automatically convert into Hindi language.

Its time to throw all the dusty cassette tapes, LP’s and vinyl records off the old shelf!

Here is a cool software that allows one to record directly from an external source of audio into the hardware. Big deal! You might say. The same thing can be achieved even if one has access to a decent sound card and Windows. Where this software scores over the normal ‘connect and record’ procedures is the various options it offers to do the same. The sound quality of the sound recorded can be enhanced by the inbuilt options in the software. Also, there are various options like cassette noise reduction, voice breath noise reduction and expander. Also ‘insert silence’ and ‘insert noise’ features add on to the effects list. Also provided are various filters one would like to add to his recorded audio.

Otherwise recording is all self explanatory. A click on the record button brings about the record window. A few options like sound source and audio configuration later, there you go!

Also, voice can be recorded through a normal microphone and edited in this software to be used by other sound editing software. And recorded voice or music can also be edited in a wide range of editing tools like amplify, fading options, compressor, vibrato, delay, flanger, reverb, stretch time, band pass etc. And the ease in editing due to the large user friendly graphical console interface is just awesome. Also, the zoom in and zoom out options helps in intricate editing, but it requires a basic knowledge of waveform editing.

Wavepad is a sound recorder and editor that lets the user record and edit voice and music. Though not a loop based application, this software created by NCH Swift Sound comes handy in creating simple music by allowing simple options like copy, cut and paste either the entire track or just small selected parts of the track. Also on offer are various editing options like amplify, normalize, echo, reverb, equalizer, reverse, high pass filter, dynamic range compressor, all of which are just the perfect foil for the beginner who has just started and not yet comfortable with high end music editing software. Point to be taken into account here is that this software is not for the professionals. Working in this software for some time will however give the closet musician the right amount of exposure to move on to other complex softwares within a small amount of time.

Wavepad also offers various DirectX plug-ins for more varied effects like Distortion, Parametric Equalizer, Compressor, Flanger, Chorus, I3Dl2Reverb which paves way for the user to experiment a lot with sound making it a great learning experience. Also, it allows the user to save the finished music in a wide range of formats other than the usual mp3 and WAV. Some of the other popular file formats that Wavepad allows the user to store his file as are vox, raw, m4a, rss, acc etc.
