Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 by KK+

As the web is changing we notice that web developers are concentrating on making the websites compatible to both Firefox and Internet Explorer and as we see that every year, the percentage of Firefox users are increasing.

Lot of people ask me that now they are happy with Firefox and they want to simply block Internet Explorer so that no one else (on a shared computer) uses the Internet Explorer. Well, there are 4 ways denying access to Internet Explorer and depending on the other persons tech knowledge you can apply any one of these ways. Here are the ways of disabling Internet Explorer :

1. Through a firewall : The most known way of denying the Internet access to any program is through Firewall. Using any third party firewall, simply deny the access to Internet Explorer.

2. Through Proxy Settings : There are few steps involved in removing the access of Internet access through this way and here are steps :

a) Open Internet Explorer
b) Go to Tools-> Internet Options
c) Go to Connections tab
d) Click on LAN Settings button
e) Tick the box which says Use a proxy server for your LAN…..
f) Under Address type 0.0.0.0 and then click OK where ever you get OK.
g) That will remove the access just follow the steps and Un-tick the box if you want to give the access back.

3. Removing Internet Explorer from Desktop and start menu : Well, this won’t remove the Internet Explorer from your machine but will remove the shortcuts from the common places. For this either remove the icon manually or follow these steps :

a) Go to Control Panel (click on Start and then Control Panel).
b) Open Add/Remove Programs
c) Click on Add/Remove Windows Components (on the left, most likely 3nd icon)
d) Find Internet Explorer and Un-tick it.
e) Click on Next and then Finish.

crossloopCrossLoop is a simple screen sharing software which is currently in Beta and as the function says that it shares your computer screen in secure and in the easiest manner. Lets look at the positives and negatives of this software in the following review :

PROS of CrossLoop :

1. Can be used by your grand ma! : Yes, CrossLoop is one of the simplest screen sharing software I’ve ever seen. The host (I.e. the person who wants help or wants to give the control) just needs to provide the Access code to the other person and when the other person connects, host has to just allow by clicking YES and that’s it. I’m sure you can teach these steps to any one who’s not comfortable with computer and you can remotely help them in solving the problem. You don’t have to figure out the IP address or any other technical information.

2. Secure sessions : All the sessions of CrossLoop are secured by 128 Bit encryption algorithm and because it randomly generates 12 digit code every time you open it up, so no same code will work and you can’t join any session until that code is with you.

3. File Sharing : CrossLoop provides you the functionality of File sharing as well and the good thing is that if you are using CrossLoop with in a network then it uses your local network to transfer the files otherwise uses the normal Internet connection to transfer the files.

4. Switch controls : You can easily switch the controls. I.e. if you initiate a session as Host then you can take the controls too. It can come handy when you are working on a research and want to perform the tasks from your computer on the other’s computer.

CONS of CrossLoop :

filerecovery-logo File recovery is a software that helps you regain lost data by restoring files that were deleted by you from your drives. It can recover accidentally deleted files from various storage media like floppy, USB flash drive, Data Cards etc and supports all windows compatible file systems like FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 etc.

Imagine if you delete a set of files from your disk drive deeming them unnecessary only to realize at a later stage that they did have some significant worth. And since there is no “Undo” possible after emptying your recycle bin, you might have some seriously contrite moments following. This is exactly when a tool like File recovery can come handy and save you some repentance.

filerecovery-interface

File recovery when tested by me provided a long list of files that I did not know when and how had been deleted from my system along with those that I had deleted deliberately to test it. So there is no doubt that the software is reliable and efficient under normal conditions. However do not expect it restore files that have been deleted using a secure file deletion tool.

More over, I think they need to improve on the interface. It’s just that the interface made them lose some of the points but overall it’s a nice and useful software.

Bottom Line

No reasons to say no to it!

orkut Orkut has added a new feature called Ask Friends, few hrs. back and the feature is that you can ask questions from your friends and they can answer them for you.

This sounds more like LinkedIn Answers and I’m sure it will certainly make sense to have such applications in Orkut as these applications increase the social interaction and help you find more friends who have similar interests.

The process of adding the Ask friends feature is easy and you just have to go into the Edit Feeds and there you’ll get the option of adding this application. Once added, you can simply type in your question and either ask the question among all of your friends or simply chose some of them.

As you type your question, it automatically suggests few labels and you can either chose those or you can suggest few labels yourself. The relevancy is really great and the suggested labels are to the point.
