pr1 Today only I noticed that the PageRank of ReviewSaurus has changed. Unfortunately, it went down from PageRank 5 to PageRank 3. Well, I really can’t find out the possible reason for that, as I stopped selling the links long back and I’m getting good amount of link backs too.

orkut-indipendence No matter how much people may rant against the applications on Facebook, the developer community keeps coming up with zillions of them every day. And now the most popular social networking site in India – Orkut too has announced the opening up of the site for them real soon. Soon we will find Orkut too flooded with applications.

While this may provide a great advertisement opportunity to many companies and a showcase for the enthusiastic developers, I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be another means of spamming people with hundreds of requests and invitations (Mayank recently wrote about the sorry state of spam in social networks).

googletalk Google recently added Chatback widget in the list of ever increasing features of Google Talk (unfortunately only web based ones). Chatback widget is much like meebo me or AOL’s Wimzi widget (our coverage) which allows you to chat with visitors on your website.

Unfortunately like AOL Wimzi, Meebome I’ve decided that I won’t be using Google Talk Chatback widget on ReviewSaurus or any of my website. Here are the reasons for that :

1. Chat is good for socializing only : Chat is a very good way of communication and for socializing however, they are one of the biggest time wasters too. That’s one of the reason that many corporate’s don’t allow chatting however, they keep it open amongst company employees only.

2. I don’t want to miss the quality content : Google talk will allow me to chat to my website’s visitors however, the reason why readers would like to chat with me will be most likely because they want some help in any of the software or operating system issues or may be need some help in the wordpress theme or something like that. I would rather answer them in the forum or blog comments.

Social networks which just changed the way we communicate. I hardly remember sending an email to my friends as I can send them scrap through Orkut or write a wall post and ask them how are they doing and all such social stuff.

However, it seems to me that the downfall of these networks has just started to begin. The reason I feel so is not my personal tastes or likings but the fact that these networks have become a place of spamming.

bann-apps

What was supposed to be the best innovation of 2007 and what was most enjoyed feature of Facebook I.e. opening up of the platform for developers to build applications has now become one of the ways of spamming. Everyday, I get hundreds of requests to join this application or that application and just not pissing me off but it’s pissing thousands of others too as we can see many groups coming up which say that they hate apps or they want apps to be banned by Facebook.
