Skype is an excellent software when it comes to instant messaging and Jing (although isn’t really powerful) is only decent free solution for screen recording. I was trying to find a software which will help me make use of the Built in-sight camera of my latest Macbook, however my luck wasn’t with me. Somehow I’ve lost hope that I’ll ever find good free software for Mac OS X.

Now lemme tell you how I made use of Skype and Jing and saved myself $ 29.99 (I wanted to write $ 30 but I thought that may be Apple fans will find that offending, that I increased the price of Quick Time Pro by 1 cent) :

tinyurl.jpgTired of remembering long URLs? Or is it that your browser says ‘Page Cannot Be Displayed’ when you clicked on the long URL your friend had sent you because the URL you received and clicked on was wrapped over more than one line. Here is very easy and quick way to make it short and sweet – use TinyURL.

All you need to do is go to TinyURL and copy the long URL you want to shorten and paste it in the box asking you for your long URL and hit enter. And abracadabra! A small tiny URL appears for you to share it with all your friends. The URL never expires and you get this for FREE!
For example:This big long URLhttp://www.reviewsaurus.com/aol-google-microsoft/in-loving-memory-of-this-page-cannot-be-displayed/ is now: http://tinyurl.com/2k3q3r
Useful isn’t it?

wordpress-logo-2.jpg By default WordPress uploads all the images/files to wp-content/uploads folder and I never bothered to check that this can be changed or not, as I was happily posting through Windows Live Writer, while I was using Windows XP.

Now that I shifted to Mac OS X, I started using Ecto and I started hating it big time, just for the reason that it doesn’t have the FTP upload feature and because I keep all my images in the http://www.reviewsaurus.com/images/ folder, I was getting frustrated as there was no simple way of inserting the images because if I wanted to include images in the post then I would have done these steps :

1. Take the screenshot using Skitch & save it.
2. Upload the image using CyberDuck (ftp program).
3. Insert the image using the URL.

Well, it’s not simple trust me it’s not, when you have to write 2-3 posts a day then you would not love to perform these steps when you never had to do it before.

So, I started my research and found out that we can easily change the image/file upload location of WordPress and then everything got simple!

Here’s how we can change the image/file upload location of WordPress :

When everyone creates a list of must have software’s then I thought that I should also contribute my favs (right now) and let you know that which all software are useful (as a blogger) when you are using Mac OS X.

The list is currently about those software which I’m using while blogging and since I’ve been using OS X from last 2 days only, I still haven’t used all the software but these are some of the software which are used by most of the top blogger’s and thanks to my habit of reviewing software that I tend to find out quickly that which software is worth trying and which not.

I won’t say that these are the software which you should be using as a blogger but trust my instinct that I’m finding it easy to blog while using these software, so you’ll find it simple too. So here’s the list of Must have softwares for every blogger using OS X :

1. Desktop Blogging Client -

Ecto or Qumana : I liked both the software but none of them is close to Windows Live Writer (alas! it’s not available for Mac). Ecto is paid software and Qumana is free and is serving my purpose pretty well, so I guess I’ll settle for Qumana myself.

2. ScreenCasting -

Skitch and Jing : When it comes to taking screenshots I haven’t come across any better application than SnagIt for Windows, however Skitch stole my heart (and used it as logo :P) the moment I used it! However, I found it pathetic that most of the good software in Mac comes with a hefty price. Anyway, not in case of Jing, which lets you record videos with audio. Jing takes screenshots too, however I still prefer Skitch over it for screenshots.

Google loves to give signs before they release new features and this time it seems that they are going to integrate Google Calendar with Gtalk. I really doubt that will ever happen (the way Google has decided that they won’t update Google Talk ever!), however the signs look pretty positive.

Strange thing is that the integration can be seen not in Gmail, not in Gtalk, not even in Google Calendar itself but Orkut! I really don’t see any reason for that however, if you are a regular user of Google Calendar & Orkut then you would notice that now a days you get small popup windows (much like chat windows in GMail) which remind you about that days tasks or Agenda.

Now, the big question is that what are the signs ?
