File synchronization market is picking up really fast with the introduction of two products which have really stirred up the internet. Those days are gone when we used Microsoft Briefcase to ensure that all the files are in sync between two computers (generally office and home). Now we have SugarSync and Dropbox or may be few other file synchronization services, which make our lives way simpler than what it used to be.
I was pretty impressed with SugarSync when I first reviewed it however then I saw Dropbox which equally impressed me. However there are few things which put one ahead of the other. Let’s see those points and find out that which product is a better choice at this point of time. I’m stressing on current time because both the software/services are in beta and we never know that which one will start offering better services in near future.
Let’s find out that which service is a better choice at this time…
Supported platforms : Both the services have taken care of Windows and Mac users however both have failed to satisfy Linux users. However SugarSync is one step ahead of Dropbox as it currently supports windows based mobile phones & blackberry too (it makes more sense to support blackberry from the day 1 as file synchronization is much required for business persons and blackberry is quite popular amongst them), thus giving you a better reach to your important documents.
User Interface
: I was pretty impressed with SugarSync’s interface however Dropbox has done an excellent job as far the interface is concerned, Reason is simple, they don’t have an interface at all! They’ve beautifully integrated itself in the Finder (for mac) and thus gives you a feeling that you are accessing a local folder only and behind the scenes it synchronizes the folders.
Features : SugarSync wins this quite easily. Most of the features which are in the coming soon section of DropBox are already present in the current feature set of SugarSync. DropBox is currently offering free account of 2 Gb and doesn’t give option of upgrading but on the other hand SugarSync is giving the option of upgrading up to 250 Gb of space.

When I made a switch to Mac OS X, the biggest concern for me was the availability of software. However as days passed and I did research, I found out that the software available for Mac are pretty much same, although the number may not be as high as Windows but pretty much each and every software is available for OS X.
I’ve decided that I’ll write reviews about Mac application quite frequently and no wonder that this blog may get converted in a Mac based blog too (well, unlikely as I can’t forget my love for MS Windows).
So here I come with the review of Ecto, a blogging client which really sucks as far as Windows version goes , however I was completely bowled over by the Mac version. I tested few blogging clients (the ones which are recommended by most blogger using Mac OS X) and found that Ecto was by far the best and pretty user friendly blogging client :
It’s got each and every feature and the interface is amazingly simple, let’s talk about it’s PROS and CONS in details :

2.5 Mb of space and you’ve got yourself a suite of office applications which are capable of doing almost everything which you expect from an office suite. Tiny USB Office is a suite of 15-16 applications which take care of the database creation, data encryption, email client, file compression, file sharing, chat, pdf creation, password recovery, word processing, spreadsheet creation and few more things and that too in just 2.5 Mb of size!
I was thrilled when I found out about it. Sure it can do all this stuff, however all these tasks are made possible with the help of various small utilities which from no where can be considered as a substitute to your main office suite. However, I wanted to share this application with you because it’s free and it’s so small in size!
Here are some of the tasks and the name of the applications which perform that particular task for you :

No one can be called a winner as far as the online office space is concerned. There are various players and the market share is fluctuating too. Google docs has more market share as compared to other services, however it’s not the best of the lot. Things have started to roll in Google Docs and we are seeing lot of changes and that too pretty quickly, however when we compare them from Zoho, they lack a lot as Zoho had already provided all those features way back.
For e.g. Google docs finally syncs with the help of Google gears and now lets you edit the documents even when you are offline. A feature which has been available in Zoho from very long time. It’s always good to see the competition and I’m glad that finally Google woke up and started to work on it’s existing applications and started making them better.
Apart from that a request for Zoho from my side, it’s been a couple of months and I’m desperately waiting for hosted Zoho mail service and want to see some good competition for Google from your side in this department too.
