spam-food-1.jpg Do you consider yourself as a person who’s smart enough to find out that which website is going to respect your privacy ? Do you fear while submitting your e-mail address on a website ? Do you know what steps should be taken before you submit your email address on a website ?

I’m sure by the time you’ve got an idea that this post is about e-mail privacy and how you can ensure that your inbox can stay spam free (not possible at all, still it’s always good if you don’t get bombarded with spam). Let’s see what can be done to ensure that we can be safe from spam and if at all we get caught in spam then what can be done to avoid it :

Prevention is better than cure …

We always hear these things that prevention is better than cure and I totally believe in it. Let’s see how we can be safe from spam and ensure that our time gets utilized in better things -

1. Check out the privacy policy : We all trust few websites and we should too, however there are very small areas where the websites may trick us. Lot of websites mention in their privacy policy that they may sell your email address to advertisers. So, it’s important to check privacy policy.

2. Use of temporary email address : There are various temporary email services which are now giving the option of creating temporary email address which expire after sometime. So, if you doubt a website or desperately need to use their service but their privacy policy says that they may provide the email to advertisers then you should consider using those temporary email services. 10 Minute mail is one such service which we’ve covered earlier.

3. Report spam if it’s spam : Most of the email services enhance their spam filters on the decisions made by people like you and me. If you’ll report that the email is a spam, it’ll help the email service’s spam filters become better and that in turn will help most of us.

4. Try not to display your email on websites : There are many spam bots which crawl the web and collect the email address which are displayed on a webpage. You should ensure that you must not list your email address in public on your website or any other website.

5. Maintain two or more email accounts : I’ve got two three email accounts and I’ve configured them all in my GMail account, I think and submit the email accounts accordingly. For personal contacts, I use a different email and for business , I’ve got a separate email. There is one special email which I use to fill up form, services over the web. Because of this if 1 of the email gets bad at least you will have the option of leaving that e-mail as one of the email is working fine for you.

Today Michael Arrington reported a big news and one of my long time wish that Google and Skype may get in some sort of partnership or it may be that Google may acquire Skype from Ebay completely. I’m a fan of Google and it’s most of the services and Skype is something which according to me is the best instant messenger ever built.

Why Google and Skype merger makes more sense :

1. We’ll have a complete messenger from Google : Skype is a complete instant messenger and is available for each and every platform. Google finds it really difficult to update the Google Talk program, so they won’t have to waste their valuable resources on Google Talk.

2. No more dragging of userbase : I’ve to drag a lot of my friends and family members towards Skype and I won’t have to do that as Google marketing team is good enough and they’ll ensure that everyone who’s using GMail, starts to use Skype too.

3. Free calls to landlines/mobile phones : Google has always been popular amongst users because they believe in the statement Free as in Beer! I’m pretty confident that Google will make calling to phones for free with the help of Google Audio ads. They may offer you to hear ads before the call and make the call for free.

A picture is worth 1000 words and I’ve started to believe it lately! This post goes for all those blind Mac Lovers who always say that Mac doesn’t crashes or the apps in Mac don’t crash!

If you have loaded your Firefox with loads of extensions, it is bound to slow down. You can try playing around with their options and configurations and you might just strike the right chord. However there are a few other ways and means by which you can push the beast a little faster. Here are a few handy tips for those who feel that their firefox needs a little tweaking.

Manual tweaks

1. Pipelining

Enable pipelining in your firefox. This allows your browser to make multiple requests to a web server. For this, type about:config in the address bar, and search for the following entries :

network.http.pipelining

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

network.http.proxy.pipelining

Set their values to ‘true’, ‘8′ and ‘true’ respectively. For the second entry listed above you can type in just about any figure but in order to ensure that you do not flood the server with requests a figure under 16 is advised.

2. Decreasing submenu delay

In about:config find the entry ui.submenuDelay and set its value to less than 10 or 0.
