I hope and pray some company will develop an OS that will run legacy MS software and replace the bloat and marketing driven changes (AERO? Whataerover) with increased stability, efficiency, and security. Vista came along as the supposed advance in security that XP needed. Instead, it was a major change and the security features (which could have been added to XP in a SP or upgrade, anyway) have proven to be underwhelming.

Microsoft spent 6 billion dollars to develop Vista. Six. Billion. Dollars. That's inefficiency and unnecessary change on a scale only the federal government can appreciate.

I'm not too impressed with this comments form either. 4 paragraphs too long? Don't programmers read, too?

Erm… the post is about getting the menu bar back on top of the page.

The decision to hide the menu bar by default, along with the insipid concepts of ribbons (let's mashup the menubar and toolbar into a space wasting visual mess!) and tabbed browsing (It's like having the taskbar on top of your browser, instead of, well, where it was all the time in the past!) are signs that Microsoft's interface design team have little in the way of practical ideas for improving end-user experience. So, instead, they take the poor programmer's option: Change things for the sake of screwing with people's minds and lives.

right click below the address bar – tick menu bar and voila!

@ Doug : I’m actually trying my level best to find out the solution to this particular question.

@ Silent : Yes, that is the option, however this registry patch will bring the the menu bar on the top and always visible.

@ SheeEttin : Well, I’m always in hunt of good tips and I’m sure that you can go through the blog and find various other useful tips :)

Works well. Now if only Microsoft would start using their own SDK for their own apps.

People you dont need to download or apply any patch… Simply press alt in IE7 and your old menu would be visible! Why do so many things when its available at a touch of key!!!!!!

I want the old toolbar back (IE 6), can combine everything on one line, am using IE 7 on one system only. Post registry values please, will keep looking…

Save it in the .reg extension. And then simply double click on it and then Click YES.
