There is an interesting question asked by David Berlind @ ZDnet Blogs that will Windows 7 be really required by 2010 ? David asks that the way Web applications are bringing us to the browser based computing, then will it matter if we will have Windows 7 or Linux or Mac in 2010 ?
This question actually makes sense to me because I find myself using more of browser based applications rather than desktop based applications each and every day. For office documents, I prefer using Zoho, for e-mails I use GMail, for music we have Last.Fm and various other services which we can rely upon and just use the browser and an internet connection for the stuff we want to do.
So, according to me by 2010, we’ll be more dependent on the browser based computing and it will hardly matter that which OS we will be using by then. What are your thoughts about it, do you think that we’ll be able to switch completely over to online computing and we’ll be able to leave behind the offline computing by 2010 ? If not then what are the reasons which make you believe that ?
Very very thought provoking article . Yeah with “on-demand” coming into picture i am sure everything will be get cocooned to the web applications rather than desktop application. Lets see whats new in 7 other than more improved UI and proper application support and compatibility.
Well, I think that I would love to see the integration of the web services and the Sync between offline and online applications. What would you like to see Kanak???
yeah !! i think google already had a vision for this … google gears are there for offline usage of web services. making windows visually appealing will add to the usage pleasure. Application wise , they always say, that new windows comes with many security fixes etc etc … But i wonder , where they use it
Nice thoughts, how abt a Google FREE OS? :D
@ Nirmal : Google’s Free Web OS will certainly do lots of good. I think they are already rolling out so many web apps which satisfy the need of a web os. We never know that what Google will do to create the ever lasting buzz :)
