Regarding user friendliness, I’d say Linux is far ahead of windows but for two things: jerk hardware manufacturers that don’t make freely distributable Linux drivers and jerk content producers that used nonfree codecs or DRM that cannot *legally* be used by a distro from the get-go.

You don’t have to restart every time it updates, you don’t have to defrag, ever, and you don’t have to worry about antiviruses or firewalls. Gnome is more organized and clean than windows, and already comes with all you need to work, so you don’t have to go out and collect all of it every time you install. I don’t know how you can get more user friendly than that.

Get rid of the command prompt, you say? Well, windows has one too- but you don’t have to use it. Same deal. It just gives you more power if you know how to some degree.

@ ethana2 : I agree that Linux is such a platform which can run on any kind of hardware but my only concern was the ease of use. You will have to agree that still there lot and lot many people who find difficulty in using Windows which is by far the most user friendly OS available and I’m sure that they’ll find it very difficult to use when it will come to Linux. It’s not that I’m against linux but in this article, I only wanted to point out that its bad to say that Windows is not good. I don’t see any point where we can say that MS Windows is not worth praise…do you see any point like that?

Show me a platform Linux cannot run on and I’ll show you something that either needs a mod chip or lacks an MMU. I’m a free culture advocate, and I’d say go try out opensolaris, freeBSD, and Linux. As long as you’re not paying for it, you have nothing to lose by trying it… (use an empty HDD if you don’t know what you’re doing) Heck, I’ll go out of my way to help you. as evry one read all information which is given by kamaldeep and reviewsaurus windows vs linux i dont have much experiance of linux but i still recommend it for future platform becouse it having some special qualities which windows dose’t have like –virus protection , staiblity ,quality of handling big database,(becouse even real scenereo allmost datacenter is based on linux server and linux workstation),less possiblity of hacking.these all quality is making to linux a robust os

Yes, Mac is the best at the moment. Even the logo of windows was designed on a Mac ;)

Mac is going to rule because most of the development applications are released for mac too. Macromedia apps are all avaliable for windows and mac. I would any day prefer mac because its way too resource friendly and Apple produces powerful(and beautiful) machines with powerful OSs(say MAC OS X/TIGER).
Like linux, very less viruses have been developed for Mac.

One more reason to prefer mac is that pocket pcs can be synced with Mac by using an application called “Missing Sync”. With it, one can sync with the contacts residing on the Mac.

Apple has made some remarkable products like Mac iBOOK G4 etc and we ll continue to see such great innovation from them

I agree to deepak uncle. I’m sure soon windows will have less chance and as far as Linux or Unix is concerned, people will know it as Mac in future. Now, that Mac is available for Intel PCs (akhil has already mentioned that it can be run through AMD’s as well, thru patches and all stuff), I’m sure it will also become hot and we will have piracy of this OS too. Just for everybodies information, we already have pirated version (although developer version) of MAC for Intel is available on the internet. I’m sure that Mac stands a chance in future but Linux will still need big fight.

And well said Kamaldeep, I agree to you to. We have really less softwares in Linux and there are some but most of them are available for Windows too. For e.g. Openoffice (as you mentioned) other thing we can talk about is GIMP (Photoshop alternative) , even that is also available for Windows. But, Photoshop is already available for Macintosh, so what I think that it will MAC who may rule the future. Although, Microsoft will not let the market share slip easily from the its hands. What do you all think about it?
