Philipp Lenssen has found a cool and fun search engine called Ms. Dewey. Miss Dewey is a cool and funny character built using Adobe (rather Macromedia) Flash and gives comments when someone searches for the terms “sexy”, “games”, “cars”, “beer”. She will also acknowledge the fact that “You are a good searcher”.
Nothing, but a nice five min. entertainment but still worth a try.

After Google engineers redesigned Google Reader, most of the people said that it is a mix of Bloglines & Gmail’s design. And most of them thought that why exactly, they are not integrating it in Gmail only. This will not only make it easy for users but it will be very good for Google as well, as they’ll be having more and more users of Google Reader too.
Even, Yahoo Mail beta has the inbuilt feed reader and I’ve always thought that integrating of services in one place is the best thing to do because that will always help users and the company only because then the customers become loyal to them.
Thank God that the world has FireFox & GreaseMonkey script!
Mihai Parparita (a member of Google Reader team), has developed the GreaseMonkey script which allows users to see their feeds in Gmail directly. Follow the instructions given below to integrate Google Reader in Gmail :
TIP : You can also use Flock Browser as well. Greasemonkey plugin is compatible with Flock Browser and the script will work in Flock as well. But, this will not work in Internet Explorer for sure.

Are you a blogger fan? Are you fan of those 3 column templates? Do you want to switch to Blogger beta and looking for nice 3 column templates? If your answer to all these questions is yes then you are reading the correct post :).
Ramani has made some templates for blogger beta or rather I’ll say tweaked the default blogger beta templates and has made them into 3 column templates.
If you need a 3-column template for a new blog or just want to try 3-columns with a test blog, you can right-click, save one of these templates and upload it to Blogger. If you want to use these with your active blog, please note that it doesn’t have all your widgets. So, you will have to add them again.
Not only this, he has made various hacks for the Blogger Beta and one can go on this URL to make use of them. Good Work There, Ramani .

Couple of days back, I recieved a presentation from one of my friend Anoop Chawla. He and his college friend’s (Akhil Babel & Ritika Gupta) made a presentation for a contest in their college and the good thing is that they were the winners of the contest. I know Anoop and Akhil personally and I respect their knowledge in the field of computers (both of them are geeks) :).
The presentation is about Linux and shows the comparison between the Windows and Linux and informs users about various facts and praises linux all the way. So, I thought of discussing and sharing this presentation with everyone. I’ll be pointing some of the pages of the presentation and will try to show the real picture to everyone. Anyway, here’s the presentation, which they created, please go through it and then we’ll discuss the hot question, “Which OS is better, Windows Or Linux?”
The presentation is about Linux and the first 20 pages of it shows what exactly linux is and gives a brief overview of it and tells everyone about the various applications available in linux for day to day computing. But the fun starts when the 21st slide comes up and that says Windows Vs Linux.
Slide 22 : The slide shows the list of flavours available for Linux and Windows but unfortunately misses some of the important information. The list of Linux flavours is less than the number of available flavours of Linux (but that is ok, as there are hundreds of flavours available and it is almost impossible to list them in a presentation. They’ve put only the popular ones, however, they could have added this line and hundreds more….. And in the case of windows, they forgot to put Windows 3.1 in the list. We must not forget that Windows 3.1 was the first GUI based OS from Microsoft and the first one in the windows family. And a mention of Windows Vista would have been also good.
Slide 23 : In this slide the comparison of the GUI of both the OS’s is given but again the true picture was not shown as the latest released version of Windows is Windows XP and the second screenshot is of Windows XP only but shows the classic view of Windows. Original look of windows XP is much more better than that of Linux. So, was this intentional or not, I’m not sure about it but certainly needs a correction.
Slide 24 : This slide shows the difference between the Command Lines of both the OS’s and I’ve to agree that Linux’s command line looks much better, when opened in the GUI mode but Windows Command line looks pretty dull.
Slide 25 : I don’t have an idea about what they are trying to say over here. Do they mean that Windows can’t be used for clustering? If that is the case then sorry guys but Windows servers can be used for clustering as well.
Slide 27 : This slide displays the picture which says that the cost of using Linux is far less than that of Windows. In this case I’ll love to point to one of the news report from CNET which says that Windows Is Cheaper Than Linux in Enterprises.
Slide 28 : This slide says END THE MONOPOLY. If I understand correctly Monopoly is that state in which there is a restriction in the entry of various other players but in this case there is no restriction at all. We have Unix, Linux, FreeBSD etc. as other operating system. However, the biggest market share is with Microsoft. And I believe the reason for that is because they’ve made wonderful and easy operating systems due to which various people purchase it.
Slide 29 & 30 : They are nothing but some funny quotations and the 30th one displays the name of three researchers.
So, that’s what I feel about the various points mentioned in this presentation. What do you think is Linux better or is Windows?
