Zoho is all ready to release its new online service i.e. Zoho Drive. As the name suggests, it will be an online storage service which will offer online storage to the users. The service is on hold at this point of time and recently I recieved the email from the Zoho Team which indicated that the service is about to launch shortly.
It seems to me that they will be launching the service or may be demonstrating it in the Office 2.0 Conference too but, I can’t really comment on that as it recently they demonstrated the Zoho Virtual Office in the conference. However, it is speculated that it will be a service similar to Box.Net.
Well, if Zoho wants to get into the online storage service then they’ll need to offer something more than Box.Net and Aol’s Xdrive. At this point of time, Box.Net is offering 1 Gb of space for free and charges $ 4.99/Month for 5 Gb of space; on the other hand, Xdrive from AOL is offering whooping 5 Gb of space and that too completely free.
Although, Zoho has got an edge over these two services and that is it has the complete web office suite and it has got plans to integrate it’s web office suite with the online storage service. So, any person who’ll be using Zoho’s Writer, Sheet or Show will be able to open the stored files directly in the respective application. So, if you have a word document file stored on Zoho Drive then you’ll be able to open it up in Zoho Writer directly and will be able to edit and save it on Zoho Drive directly.
So, if Zoho Drive will be able to provide space more than Box.Net and even if less than Xdrive then I’m sure that it will be able to make a better mark over rest of the services. Zoho as a brand has already left a great mark in the field of Office 2.0 and I believe they’ll be able to do the same in the case of Zoho Drive as well.

Microsoft has officialy stopped giving the support for Windows XP with Service Pack 1. Now, they will only entertain the users using Windows XP SP2 Only. They are in no mood to entertain the customers who have yet not upgraded the systems to SP2.
I think it is a nice move from Microsoft as it will encourage users to upgrade the system which is for their own good only. SP2 was released around 2 years back and it has plugged many holes which protect users from various virus threats. So, if you are looking for support please go ahead and upgrade the system to SP 2.

Wikipedia, the free online encylopedia is now accessible in China once again. However, the catch is that it is available in all the languages except Chinese. So, all those users (living in China) of wikipedia can now easily go through various articles in any language but if they want to look for chinese content then they will be presented with a blank screen.
We all know that China is very picky about what is shown on the internet and thus has blocked various websites before including Google as well. The reason due to which Wikipedia was blocked is that the Government of China thinks that there are various articles on Wikipedia which are politically sensitive.
I am not sure that why exactly countries apply these kind of restrictions because these restrictions can be easily over-riden by the use of various public proxy sites like http://anonymouse.org. Also, blocking of the internet content will always provoke the users to actually use it using all these kind of methods and it will do nothing but it will highlight these kind of content. Also, it will mean that Government is considering its citizens as immature and wants to put a check on them.
Anyway, the alternative of Wikipedia Chinese is Baidu Baike and it also provides the content but unlike wikipedia Baidu Baike’s content is monitored and is owned by Baidu only.

Carphone warehouse has acquired AOL UK for (370 GBP) $ 688 million and has captured the third place in the field of internet service providers in UK. AOL has finally sold off its last european unit, as in the last month or so it sold off its German Unit to Telecom Italia & prior to that it had sold its french unit to Neuf Cegetel. With this deal, Carphone warehouse makes another mark in the corporate world as it had acquired Onetel early this year.
I am not sure that how much this deal will effect Carphone Warehouse because it is already under lot of pressure because of it’s Free Broadband strategy under its TalkTalk brand. It is heard that TalkTalk is not able to supply the broadband to lots of customers as thousand and thousands of users are trying to switch to TalkTalk’s free broadband service. But, as far AOL is concerned, they have been selling off their ISP services and the new model of advertising based revenue is helping them a lot. As more and more people have started to like the company and the offerings it is making recently. AOL has recently offered free services to everyone on the internet and not just its subscribers.
