After reviewing screen capture softwares like SnagIt, I hardly expected any other software to impress me much but this one did!
CaptureWiz Pro is smart software with an innovative interface which seems to know exactly what a user wants. Let me elaborate on its smartness a little further.
Strengths
1. Interface
You might not like the default golden color of the small window that pops up when you start the software, but you will surely be impressed with its contents. It has a top panel with icons clearly listing the various ways you can obtain a capture from your screen. To add to your convenience, there is a comprehensive list of activities below which allows you to chose your action making life a little simpler for you
2. Features
I never expected this small window to be so affluent in features. The scroll capture feature is quite unique and so is its ability to capture audio only. The Frame capture tool makes capturing a region on the screen a far more user friendly experience. I also found its auto hide feature pretty useful. And yes, don’t forget to use its cool stickies tool!

VB doodle is a unique software which allows you to draw anywhere on your screen and then capture it. I believe such softwares have limited utility. However the readers are free to use the software and form their own opinion.
It contains nothing more than a simple toolbox which helps you chose colors and font specifications,draw figures and write text anywhere on your screen and save the captured image in JPG, BMP or GIF formats.
Although the software is unique it failed to impress me much. What it does can easily be done by any other screen capture tool. It hardly makes any difference if the figures are drawn before capturing the screen or after that.
Bottom Line:
I didn’t find it of much use, someone else might!

Amongst the giants of the arena of Screen Capture, this tiny software might seem like a negligible entity but you never know when it might turn out to be a savior for your fingers.
Purrint is a 135 KB software which makes your ‘Prt sc’ button do more than one jobs in a single hit. The miniature software keeps running in your tray without consuming any resources and as soon as you press your Print screen button it pops up with a small window containing a preview of your screen and the options for copying the image to your clipboard, saving it in different file formats or printing it directly.You can also automate any of the above mentioned options.
It does nothing more than saving a couple of mouse movements and keystrokes for you but when taking multiple screenshots, this can prove to be of great help.
Bottom Line:
Small and sweet but useful only when multiple screenshots are required.

When deciding to review the various screen capture utilities I had never even imagined of certain aspects of it before stumbling across the tools that make them happen! One of these was turning a web page into an image. Considering that web pages often extend much beyond what can be seen on the screen at any instant, it becomes really difficult to pack them into a single image.WebShot is an extremely light and simple tool which does just that!

Once you download and install this light software, it opens as a small window with 5 tabs and a few listed options and settings. Using these settings and options you can decide the web page(s) to grab and the size, quality and other such aspects of the output image. Next, within a click and a few seconds you have your image ready! Its really that simple!
It allows you to capture multiple web pages at a time too and also generates a log after each capture.

After reviewing so many screen capture utilities, I came across an interesting online tool – Screencast-o-Matic.
It is an online tool that enables you to record your screen activity in a QuickTime video without needing to install any software on your hard drive. It also provides you the facility to upload your recorded video for free hosting. Doesn’t that sound really cool?
To use this tool, all you have to do is to log on to www.screencas-o-matic.com and click on the ‘Create’ button that appears on your screen. What follows is a step by step guide which asks you about the capture size, audio input and whether to follow the mouse with a red dot. Once you click on ‘Go!’, you are ready to record your screen. A box appears on your screen which should be placed on the area which you want to record.Thus even without any software installed you can record a video of your screen activity for free!
The only drawback that I found here is that the tool requires Java runtime files to work. In the absence of Java, you might not be able to use it. But who really doesn’t have Java installed ???
Although the utility is simple and doesn’t offer many extra features, it can be great help when you are in a cyber cafe or similar place and need to share certain screen activity.The tool is quick and efficient too.
So the next time you are not on your PC and feel the need to share your screen, you know the place to go!
