UltraMixer 2.2

Free version/Pro version  Logo

UltraMixer is a DJ software that allows one to mix tracks with real ease. Though this software has a host of features, this disappoints. The first disappointment comes in the form of the graphical interface. When almost all DJ softwares come with a simulation of turntables that allows the DJ to scratch, Ultramixer doesn’t have one. Lack of effects like pattern editor or other important effects that may be required by any DJ makes this software an avoidable option at a time when better software are available that offer much more features.

However UltraMixer has the distinction of being the best bet when it comes to Linux or Mac users.

logo Want to compose rock and don’t know how to even hold a guitar. Relax. All you need is Fl Studio with the FL Slayer plugin. Originally developed by reFX, this plugin opens a cool looking interface that sets one’s eyes on fire!

A realistic set of six strings that makes the user to move his mouse up and down; it doesn’t work though. One has to open the piano roll editor and paint the notes as required and viola – you have your first guitar solo! Options given are Auto chords, power chords, strumming among other things and various knobs are given using which one can tweak tone, fret, slap, feedback, harmony, drive, presence etc. I am not going to tell you what each knob does. I suggest you run the plugin and use it and tweak the knobs yourself and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised you get the various sounds as rock stars play on stage!

Logo Audacity is an open source software for multi track recording and editing sound from Audacity Developer Team. Winner of the SourceForge Community Choice Awards 2007 — Multimedia Category, this software allows multi track recording, editing, add effects, analyze and produce music.

Recording offers a wide variety of options like mono, stereo and panning which can be done live while recording. Also level meters are available that monitor volume levels while and after recording. Files can be imported and exported as wav, aiff, ogg and ogg and can be imported mp3, mp2 (this requires a third party software libmad). However finished music can be easily exported as mp3. Raw files can also be imported.

Editing is very easy by simple clicks on the mouse – cut, copy and paste. Also the drawing tool can be used with ease.

Effects are abundant in Audacity. Normal effects like reverb, chorus and echo are there to name a few and complex effects like Nyquist Prompt, Wahwah adder and FFT filter too are available making the Audacity a good bet.

pianofx_200x200 PianoFX Studio is a computer based piano synthesizer which looks great and feels even better to work on. A smart graphical interface resembling any modern day electronic keyboard welcomes the user. Tweaking around in the program for a couple of minutes is all that is required to use this software with ease.

And if you have had keyboard training or at least have a vague idea about the piano, nothing stops you from playing your favorite songs.

Playing the keyboard in this software is either using the mouse or the keyboard though I personally prefer the keyboard as it is much more flexible and easy to use. There are a set of melody samples much similar to the demo that is available in a normal electronic keyboard. 127 various musical and percussion instruments are provided for the user to select from and there is a 10 drum synthesizer machine.
