Nirmal has written a post on 7 blogging tips for beginners and that provoked me to write a series where I’ll be discussing about blogging and various tricks I learnt from my experience. In this post, I’ll start with the basic and then I’ll move further to the tips and tricks. So lets find out what is a blog and blogging :

The technical definition of a blog :

I’m a big fan of Darren Rowse and he has already written a post where he explains that what is a blog and he has covered the technical definition of the blog and explained the terms like blogging, archives, comments.

Here’s is the technical definition of blog given by Darren :

Blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.

I know this may not be clear but go through the post written by Darren and you’ll get the exact idea of what exactly blog is all about.

My definition of a blog (not technical) :

Well, this is strange for me too but yes I’m writing some thing non-technical over here. Here’s what I think about a blog :

A blog is a platform where you have the option of expressing your ideas & views and you are ready to accept the views of the visitors through comments.

My definition of what is not a blog (I hope that most of the people will agree to this):

If we go by the technical definition then any website which has some posts arranged in chronological order can be called a blog but that won’t be a real blog. For e.g. if you copy and paste the posts of other people in a blog platform then it will not be your blog. A blog is your reflection and it reflects your ideology. It’s a way of communicating your thoughts to others in written format (it can have images too).

What is blogging :

With the release of Microsoft Office 2007 came a new format DOCX. Yes, all the word documents created in Microsoft Word 2007 will be saved in DOCX format until and unless you specifically save them in DOC format using the SAVE AS format.

There are few ways through which you can convert the DOCX files into DOC format, so that they can be opened using older version of Microsoft Office or may be with OpenOffice.Org :

1. Convert the file using ZamZar : You can simply go on ZamZar.com & then upload the DOCX file and then select the option of exporting it to DOC format.

2. Convert using DOCX2DOC : Another online converter and this one is specifically for converting the files from DOCX to DOC. Visit DOCX2DOC.COM

3. Compatibility pack by Microsoft : You may download the compatibility pack from Microsoft which will allow you to open, edit and save the DOCX format in the older version of MS Office.

Yes, you read it right. Now you can purchase the shares of TipsoSaurus for $ 21/Share. Right now only 114 shares are available so act fast before some one else buys them! The stock market is closed at the time of writing this post, but it will be open in some time and then you can go ahead and invest your money in it.

Well, not to confuse you much with the heading and the first paragraph, let me reveal the secret. Well, URLADEX is an online game which decides the price of the virtual shares of that domain. The factors which help in deciding the share price are Alexa Rank (with the gain and loss in the Alexa Rank, price changes) and whether any story of that domain has hit digg’s homepage or not (more stories on digg homepage means more price of that domain’s shares).

You get virtual money and when you open an account you get $ 10,000 to buy shares and then you can buy shares of various domains and have fun while you see various domains fighting with each other in the cyber space.
