If you are a windows user then you know the pain of fighting against those nasty viruses and Trojans. One of the ways of fighting these malicious programs is that instead of running yourself with Administrative privileges, use a restricted or a normal user account.
I know that most of you’ll think that what’s the point of having a personal computer when you don’t have full control over it and that you don’t want to get into the mess of logging off and logging back on when you want to start or stop a service or when you want to reinstall an application.
Well, there is a simple work around to such a problem (actually two work around) and here’s what you can do :
1. Right click on any software or program which needs the administrative privileges and select Run As and that’ll give you the option of inserting the username and password. Over there type the administrator username and password and you’ll be able to run the application or install that application.
2. Creating a batch file to load command prompt with administrative privileges :

We are using MediaTemple as our web host and our sites were down for almost 9 hrs. ! Now, that’s not good thing if you are using a premium web host but still, I’ll say that it’s better that one should MediaTemple and here’s the reason :
MediaTemple had already informed us that there is a scheduled maintenance of around 6 hrs. however, due to some complications the downtime increased to 3 more hrs. Of course, I felt bad about it, however, my patience level kept me from ranting and whining about it. I wanted to ask for some compensation however, I just kept myself patient enough because I understand that *shit* happens!

However, after that next day I received an email which said that I’ve been given 2 months of free hosting as a compensation. I know it can be a huge loss to those who are making good money from their blogs but this incident suggests that they care about their clients.
These are some of the points which we can take up from this incident (both positives and negatives) :
1. There was a long downtime of 9 hours. (They were polite, informed us before hand and accepted their fault.)
2. Provided the 2 months of free hosting.

I’m sure you must have seen all sorts of blog posts which say that Piracy isn’t good and that one should not indulge themselves into piracy at all. But I’ll say do it! It helps a lot of people! Look around and you’ll see that how piracy has helped many companies. Can’t think of any ? well, the answer is (most likely) the company behind your operating system, yes I.e. Microsoft! There are numerous examples : Adobe, Symantec etc.
Piracy has helped them become the no. 1 software company and the most used operating system ever built and who knows if this idea came from the redmond based company itself.
Well, another example was seen recently when Eric D. Wilkinson (producer of a small independent film called Jerome Bixby’s The Man From Earth) thanked one of the Piracy loving blog ReleaseLog, for posting the movies’ Torrent link!
So, don’t feel guilty of using that pirated software ! However, as a gentleman I’ll say don’t use it, at least pay for the software which gets you bread and butter as that software is the bread and butter of those people who made it!
