@ Vyoma : Nice thing. I'll try and contact philip

@ Aseem : Well, there were many directories who were not selling links and still they got slapped by the Pagerank

@ Rajesh : Well, it's just not so easy. We need some really good search company which can come up with really cool search engine. Then only we'll be able to think of switching over!

I think it would be the same if they were selling those links, but the directory is created by Google and you cannot buy to put yourself there. The other directories charged people so that they can place their links and get some PageRank juice.

Personally, I think the whole paid links should be discounted. It's not fair to get ranking power by buying it.

On an afterthought though, is not the directory sourced from DMOZ?

There would be conflict of interest only if they sell positions on Google Directory and do not 'no-follow' them.

Hmmm. Some things we can do about it.

Blog about it. :) You already did.

Try contacting Google with this question.

1. Contacting driectly (not sure how) might not work out due to our 'lowly' profile.
2. Contact someone who has had correspondance with Google. Someone from Google Blogoscoped, may be?
