Firefox is my favorite browser, when it comes to surfing the web. I support Firefox and suggest everyone to install it (Ok, no need to flame all you opera and IE lovers. Everyone has an opinion and so do I). In the Thank You series, I would like to Thank Mozilla Corp. for providing such a wonderful browser.
Not only it helps me in browsing safely (phishing filters, pop-up blockers, avoids active x based malware), its extensive plug-ins ensure that I can easily browse the web the way I want.
We can make out the popularity of the Firefox just by running a small search on Google Trends and here’s the graph of the Firefox. It’s gaining more and more popularity and capturing the browser market slowly and slowly :
I would also like to Thank all the developers who took their time to develop the plug-ins and as a thank you note here is the list of plug-ins which I use & posting the links to their reviews :
1. Adsense Notifier : A great plugin which keeps track of your Adsense income and lets you see if any stupid activity is going on with your Adsense account.
2. Answers : This plugin tells you about the specific word when you left click on any word with ALT button pressed. The list in the link has some other cool Firefox plugins too.
3. ChatZilla : This plugin ensures that you can make use of IRC to its fullest and that too for free. There are other software which lets you access IRC but they are no where close to this plugin and its simplicity.
4. Colorzilla : This plugin is really useful for all the web developers as it lets you chose the color values with the click of a button.
5. CuteMenus : This Firefox extension which creates your Firefox menus look prettier. Although, isn’t something which is must but menus definitely look better.
6. Del.icio.us bookmarks : This plugin ensures that all your bookmarks are synced with del.icio.us servers and so you have them available all the time and because they are stored locally, you can access them fast too! Private bookmarks are also available, so you just don’t have to worry about privacy issues too.
7. Download Statusbar : This extension ensures that you can see and manage your downloads pretty easily from a status bar. Thus you don’t miss out any downloads.
8. FoxClocks : A great add-on when it comes to having multiple clocks of different countries. I work with lot of people around the globe and to ensure that I don’t bug them at times, other than business hrs. I use this extension.
9. Google Gears : Google gears is a wonderful extension from Google which ensures that various online applications can be accessed offline. Zoho Writer is one of my favorite application and I use it regularly with Google Gears.
10. Google Toolbar : There is no review required for this toolbar. These two words (Google Toolbar) are more than enough for anyone. Must have for everyone who uses Google Search.
11. Greasemonkey : This add-on lets you add functionality to your favorite websites or it also lets you remove some of the unwanted to features. All in all, a must have. The link is basically a great list of some of the best Greasemonkey scripts, the list was compiled by my friend Kyle (must read blog).
12. IE Tab : This add-on is amazing and must have if you are using Firefox on Windows based computer. It lets you view all the websites and you don’t have to leave Firefox even if the site requires you to use Internet Explorer!
13. PDF Download : This extension ensure that you get the option of downloading the PDF file, instead of automatically opening the PDF file from the web.
14. StumbleUpon : This is a great extension when it comes to discovery of some wonderful stuff on the web. You’ll spend hrs. and hrs. in discovering new websites.
15. Tab Mix Plus : Tab mix plus is a great extension when it comes to adding lot of power to the Tabs function of Firefox. Another must have Firefox extension.
I would suggest everyone to create a Thank you list as not only it will boost the developers but it will also display that which products are doing well and pleasing their users. So, what’s your Thank you list !
Great collection of add-ons you’ve got here. Greasemonkey alone makes it worth the switch to Firefox, though the other browsers work with a few scripts.
I agree wholeheartedly. Ive been a fan of Firefox for a long long time.
Great Article.
Can’t imagine somebody still using IE these days. Hats off to Mozilla Firefox.
They are not plugins.
They are Add-Ons.
its better we avoid unnecessary confusion
@ John : Yeah that’s what Firefox calls it. But, plugins, add-ons does it really make a difference ?
Nice collection buddy.
