I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) on numerous computers with wired and wireless cards and never had a network issue. Wired were various PCI manufactures and including chip sets on the motherboard. Wireless were Motorola, Linksys and USR in desktops and I've never had any problems with built in wireless adapters or external USB adapters on any laptops detecting and installing the proper drivers. What version of Ubuntu did you try installing?

@ Shankar : Which internet connection do you use? Which modem or hardware device you use to connect to the internet?

@ Vyoma : Depends on the hardware you were using :)

@ Vijay : Well, it is the wireless card! There are no official drivers for linux from netgear and that's why I had to use the ndiswrapper and unfortunately still no joy :(

Hmmm. That is odd. I remember using Ubuntu when I was back in Chennai - the net connection worked right out of the box for me.

@ Ken : Well, with every intention of writing the article, I was trying this. But, it seems that its just not going to work for me. But, still I'll see what can be done to get it done.

@ Arpit : Well, I've already tried VMware player and I even wrote the article on that once. It's just that I wanted to make sure that if I can make my computer a freeware hub. I was inclined to install the complete installation and did the dual boot.
