Easiest way of running HP printers on Linux!

Well, the only pain in using Linux is that it doesn’t have the drivers for many hardware devices (although, things are improving pretty fast). It can be even painful if the device is your printer.

Luckily, if you have a HP printer, then your life isn’t in danger. You can install and run most of HP printers without any problem by following these steps :

1. Open Terminal
2. Type sudo apt-get install hplip and press enter
3. Select Y if asked

This will install the HP Linux imaging and printing and then to configure your printer follow these steps :

1. open Firefox
2
. Go to this URL http://localhost:631/
3. Click on Add Printer and then follow the wizard.

Most likely you’ll find that your HP printer will be supported, but if it is really new then you may need to wait for couple of weeks, before the support for your printer can be added in HPLIP.
