google Well, I always used to think that Google has great documentation and great help section and that it covers almost each and everything properly. However, I was wrong! Google Calendar says that in India the supported carriers for SMS notification are these companies only :

  1. Hutch-Mumbai
  2. Hutch-Delhi
  3. Hutch-Gujarat
  4. Hutchison Essar Cellular Limited
  5. Hutch-Kolkata
  6. Spice Karnataka
  7. Spice Punjab

However, I tested it with Airtel (Chennai) and it works perfectly fine. I got the verification code and the notifications too. So, if you are one like me who thinks that GCal won’t work because Google says so, then you may be wrong. Go ahead and find out yourself by following these steps :

1. Go to Settings in GCal.
2. Go to Mobile Setup.
3. Put the phone number including country code.
4. Click on send verification code.

If you receive it, then you can just go ahead and enjoy the SMS service of Google Calendar.

    Hi All, I

I know Google SMS reminder service is free however the Service Provider may charge for the same.

Does anyone know if Airtel has any tariff for the sms you receive from GCal.

    Please reply to talktoshahid@gmail.com

    Thankyou.
