
We all want to ensure that our eyes don’t hurt when we are using the computer and for that we have to take care of the screen resolution settings. We all know that how we can change the screen resolution in windows, oh! did I assume things ? Well, here’s what you can do to change it -
Changing screen resolution in Windows :
1. Right click on Desktop & select properties.
2. Click on the Advanced tab on the top.
3. Use the slider (where it says something like – 800×600 or 1024×768 & change it to something else and click apply.
Repeat the third step, till you find the best possible resolution for your monitor.
Well, now that you know how to change the screen resolution in Windows, here are the steps to change them in Linux (in general) :
1. Open Terminal window.
2. type xrandr and press enter (it will show you the screen resolutions, which are available for your computer). The following text shows the available screen resolutions of my computer and the one which has the asterisk (*) is the current resolution.

1280×1024 75.0 60.0
1280×960 60.0 75.0
1024×768 60.0 70.0 75.0 85.0
1400×1050 60.0 75.0 70.0
832×624 75.0
800×600 60.0 85.0 75.0 72.0 56.0
1600×1200 60.0
640×480 85.0 75.0 73.0 60.0
3. type xrandr -s YOUR PREFERRED RESOLUTION and press enter and instantly it will change the screen resolution for you.
How to do it through GUI in Ubuntu :
1. Go to System (on the Gnome Panel).
2. Go to Administration & then Screen & Graphics.
3. You can change the screen resolution from there or you can go to System->Prefrences->Screen Resolution and then change the settings.
With the second option, you can select a different graphics card drivers too and maintain other screens (in case you’ve connected two screens with the computer).
