1. Start any application, say MS Word.
2. Now look at the Task Manager Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Memory Usage. You will notice that ‘Winword.exe’ will be at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.
3. Now simply minimize MS word file.
4. Now check the Task Manager again and see where ‘Winword.exe’ is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find ‘winword.exe’. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.
So this is a simple and usable tip, minimize each application that you are currently not working on so that you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. It may be depend upon number of applications you use together.
Awesome!!!! Trying it right away… :D
The difference can be seen, and infact a big difference can be seen. But the difference can be seen in the applications only. opening the firefox, and network links, wont have much effect on the ram usage, But surely if one is using the applications as well, this is useful.
Also one of the SQL DB softwares i am using, creates great problem in Minimizing and maximizing, it takes a lot of time in doing so, wont be of much use in that case, But It is very informative, never gave a thought to it. :D
agree with vaibbhav. This tip is simple and is very effective. However i didnt find any change in my memory usage of firefox. It was 113mb and after minimizing also it was 113 mb. But it does work with MS applications. Cheers … I didnt know this, but now i will make sure that i minimize all the application before switching to another :)
[…] Tiposaurus give you a very simple tip which is ignored by many about how to speed up your PC while multitasking […]
Now that what i call simple :)
I knew it already but I can see its new for many other. If you have just opened many applications without minimizing them, then how about minimizing them all by Windows key + D
