open-dns

All the parents will agree that they need a software which has the parental control features and a software which can block the adult content. However, either those softwares are paid or if they are free then they actually tend to block the content which may be informational too.

So, here’s the solution for them and that solution is OpenDNS. The good thing is that it’s not a software! It’s a service which can be configured on any computer and it works for you.

All you do, is change the DNS settings (step by step guide to change the DNS address) of the computer and point it to the OpenDNS servers : 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

You don’t need any account or no signup is required, however if you do it then you get to configure a lot of things. You can create shortcuts in such a way that if you type any shortcut then you’ll be directly taken to that webpage. For e.g. I’ve created a shortcut called mail and when I type mail in my browser it automatically takes me to http://www.gmail.com

You can also manage Adult site blocking, Phishing site blocking and domain blocking altogether. Good thing about OpenDNS is that it can understand the typos very well, if at all by mistake you type yahoo.cm then it will automatically take you to Yahoo.com and won’t show page can’t be displayed or any such error.

Now, all that section was for parents! Why is it important for kids ?

Well, stop thinking about those porno sites! Go and study or rather visit WikiPedia!

    You know what?
My lil sis is so much addicted to orkut that she hardly gets any time to study.

I searched for many domain blocking tools. But didn’t find any that is free ( as u have mentioned already).
Now, I suppose I got the right choice.

    Thanks Mate!!!
