DeskAway - Should it go away or stay ?

deskawayDeskAway is the product by Synage and is another product in the space of project management and is probably competing against Zoho, BaseCamp HQ. The service lets a team to manage the projects and collaborate with each other and it combines Blogs, calendar along with that too.

Now, if we see that is certainly possible with Zoho Projects or BaseCamp HQ then what exactly DeskAway is offering here ? Well, the interface is something I’ll say they’ve done an excellent job as not only it’s quite simple but it’s quite fast loading too. However, Zoho projects works a bit faster because they’ve made good use of Ajax and that gives you the feeling as if you are working on a desktop application.

Zoho beats DeskAway in terms of pricing however, with DeskAway you can manage up to 3 projects for free where as, with Zoho you can do just 1 project for free. So DeskAway is better in that aspect.

The product looks good in terms of speed and simplicity but still needs a lot of work and probably that was one of the reason of why they approached VCs at Proto.in 2008, so that with proper funding they’ll be able to build a better product.

I can’t say that how DeskAway’s growth will be in future but if they keep it simple to use (as they are right now) and still manage to increase the features, I’m sure it will be able to attract a major share of small business users.

We’re using Wrike for project management. It seems like it beats Zoho and Desk Away, cause you can manage as many projects as you like for free. You are limmited by the number of tasks that you create only. But since Wrike works like email, and every project participant has his own free account 20 tasks are more than enough. You sgould check it, I guess http://www.wrike.com
