Did you know that OpenOffice Writer had a feature to export to PDF?
It was about a week back, and I was searching for a solution to get a good PDF creator for my ebook, You Too Can Sketch. I could find a lot of PDF printers there, but they were not giving me the desired output quality. It was then, that I found the place where I composed the book, itself had a good quality PDF creator.
- Open the document you need to create a PDF out of, using OpenOffice Writer
- File -> Export As PDF…
- Browse to the folder you want the PDF to be created in, type in the name, and hit the Save button
And you are done.

Shankar, at office I use (or am forced to use) Microsoft Office. At home, I enjoy using Open Office. I have not found anything in the common MS Office applications that I have not found in Open Office. Actually, there is more to Open Office.
Vyoma, I too love OO but something which I hate in it is that it loads too slow (or am I the only one thinking so?). Other than that, it’s good as an office suite.
Sankar, I am not sure about that. I never did a side by side benchmark on the same configuration. At office, it is a slower PC than at home. And I definitely do not want to buy Microsoft Office suite just for the sake of testing that. :P

As the comments in the article say, the Java Runtime is to blame. This pretty much sums up to its slow response to user actions.
Yes indeed. And the question is, if you would want to bear with that, or pay up for the Office suite, and also have all your documents locked down in proprietary format.
Anyways, my vote is still for OpenOffice :)
:) Yes, so is mine. I prefer not to spend on an Office suite, and keep paying it every time there is an upgrade.
Might as well spend that money on buying music and feeding those artists whose works we enjoy. :P
