Long back when I started blogging (well, around 1 and half year back…feels longer though), I’d suggested Microsoft to simply create a web service where people could use Microsoft Office online. Unfortunately, Microsoft didn’t listen to me and now they are seeing lot of users shifting to Google Docs or Zoho Office!

However, there was someone who was listening to me and decided that they’ll launch something like that, although they added a small twist to the original plan. Ulteo is the company who is working on the idea of providing OpenOffice.Org over the web. The idea is simple that a user logs to their system as if he’s sitting on his own computer and gets to access the applications and in this case the applications are OpenOffice.Org apps (Write, Calc, Draw, Math, Impress etc.)

Ulteo is going to provide 1 Gb space to the users to store all the documents. Personally, I’ll say it’s going to make all the web office services to shame as OpenOffice is clearly a software which is near to Microsoft office.

Here are some other blogs which have covered Ulteo :

1. DownloadSquad
2. WebWare
