Top desktop applications for Facebook fans!

  11 Jan 2008 by ReviewSaurus | , , , , , , , ,

facebook Facebook came, worked and swept away all other social networks. It’s one of the most preferred social network amongst teens and college students. It’s expanding well in other countries too. In India itself, it’s one of the top used social network however only after Google’s Orkut.

It’s always a pain to access all the features of Facebook, no matter how good Facebook is it’s user interface isn’t the best (as an active user of Orkut, I certainly feel so). However, now I present the list of best desktop applications for all Facebook fans :

social-im 1. Social.IM

The concept behind Social IM is that all your friends are on Yahoo, Gmail, MSN, AOL but each of them is on Facebook (not true actually, but still you get the idea of what they want to say). So, if you friend uses Social IM you’ll be able to chat with them and you’ll also get notified of various updates and pokes etc.

2. FizzBoost

fizzboost By far the best application for Facebook. This application takes care of almost each and every feature of Facebook. It notifies you friend, groups, events, pokes, wall messages etc. It lets you view the updates from your friends and lets you update your status too. You can create new albums and directly upload photos to your facebook profile. It syncs your twitter account with facebook’s status, so if you use twitter then you don’t have to worry about updating the status on facebook, it takes care of that.

3. Facebook desktop client

Facebook Desktop client doesn’t do much but it constantly notifies you of new messages, wall posts, pokes, friend requests. It’s a nice and small application and keeps you informed about your friends. One of the neatly built application.

4. Fosmio

fosmio Fosmio is another notifier which keeps you updated with your friends status, event invitations, group invitations, friend requests, unread messages and pokes. It allows you to upload the photographs to your current album and lets you create new albums too. This is one of the other application which impressed me, however not as much as FizzBoost.

Fosmio looks promising though. It’s lightweight and doesn’t take much of the memory.

5. Simple Photo Uploader

This is indeed a simple Photo uploader! It lets you create albums, upload photos, tag photos. The good thing about this application is that it is built on Java and thus it’s cross platform. You just need to have Java installed on your machine and off you go!

6. DeskBook

deskbook The name certainly impresses you. The features certainly impress you! The reason I’ve chosen it as the top application is because of all the features. However, the negative part of this application is it’s user interface. It really failed miserably in impressing me as far user interface goes. Fosmio’s interface is not good but DeskBook’s interface is even worse than that.

7. FotoBook

fotobook Well, you WordPress rockstars! This plugin is for you as this lets you import the FaceBook photos of your profile and displays them on a page of WordPress. I’m sure that all the WordPress users who are fan of Facebook will love to use this plugin.

8. Friend Photosaver

Now, comes my favorite ! Friend Photosaver is a screensaver, which lets you choose albums of your friends and then plays them as screensaver. It lets you view them even when you are offline. I love watching photos of my friends and this screensaver gives me the easiest way of doing it! You can select that which albums you want and which you don’t so it is quite customizable. Download Friend Photosaver from here.

Apart from these applications here are few other applications which are worth mentioning :

1. Flock (The social web browser)
2. Facebook toolbar for Firefox (official toolbar)

    Hi

Thanks for mentioning Fosimo - desktop client for windows on Facebook.
There is one typo in the article though. The name is FOSIMO.

Recently there were some features added to the product like:
    1) synchronization with Microsoft OUTLOOK.
    2) Autoupdate.

    Thanks again,
    Anatoly
