Faroo (our review) the Peer to peer search engine is now out of private beta and enters the second stage of public beta. Now anyone can go and download the Faroo Client and contribute in building a better search engine.
I love the concept of Faroo and I believe that it’s one of the idea which can actually make some changes in the search engine war. It deserves much more hype and users.
What’s interesting to see is that they took our suggestion and have started to display the search results from Yahoo or Microsoft Live, Wikia and few others if at all Faroo can’t deliver the search result on its own.
Not only it gives me one reason to keep the Faroo client running, it’ll help them in building the search engine’s index pretty fast. This also shows that they listen to their customers and are ready to customize the application as their user wants.
Well, not that I want to take this step again but I’m yet again coming with couple of suggestions :
1. Where’s Google : I think Faroo should have Google too. It’ll become one stop solution for lots of people who would love to contribute to Faroo and who love Google as a search engine till this time.
2. Shortcut key required : A shortcut key will be wonderful and it’ll be even great if they can provide a small search box which comes up through a shortcut key.
Well, these are the couple of suggestion from my side to Faroo and a suggestion for all of you too, go ahead and install Faroo and use it as much as you can, it’s high time and we need an alternative of Google and you can help in doing that by just running this client.
And yes, don’t forget to leave the comments and give your valuable suggestions for Faroo team.
Thank you for your great review.
> Where’s Google ?
Google doesn’t provide a search web service API anymore (http://code.google.com/apis/soapsearch/reference.html)
The terms of service of the second Google AJAX Search API do not permit to integrate their search results into a client application.
Unfortunately not always an API is really open.
> Shortcut key required
Actually there is a shortcut: Win + S opens the browser with the FAROO search interface.
Of couse that little search box you mentioned would be neat. We will probably implement a taskbar search box (deskbar).

@ wolf : First of all, I’m glad that you liked our suggestion of last time and that this time, you took time and left a comment personally.
Well, Bad of google that they are not allowing the use of API anymore, Kudos to you that you are trying to come up as an alternative to them.
Didn’t know about the shortcut feature and that deskbar feature will surely come pretty handy!
