Freemusiczilla : Another software to help pirates!

freemusiczilla Freemusiczilla is a software which helps you record the streaming media from various services. There are services like Last.Fm, Pandora, esnips, YouTube etc. which allows you listen to music for free on the Internet, however, you can’t download and play them locally (theoretically).

There are many software which allow you to record the music or record videos from these services and let you play them locally and the recent addition to these tools is Freemusiczilla. As the name suggests, this software helps you get music for free and thus giving a helping hand in the Media Piracy.

In my tests it worked wonderfully with almost each and every popular streaming service. One of my favorite download manager, Orbit Downloader (review of Orbit Downloader) is also capable of recording the streaming media.

All in all, it’s a wonderful software when it comes to capturing streaming media as it’s very light weight (just above 500 Kb) and doesn’t take too much resources (while running it was taking near about 6 Mb of RAM).

Few words of caution!

Recording the music from Freemusiczilla or any other such software can be illegal but if you want to record the creative commons music, then I’m sure you won’t face any problems. Before you start thinking that no one will know that you are recording copyrighted music like this, I’ll warn you that Jammie Thomas has to pay $ 220,000 to the recording industry because she illegally shared 24 digital-music files, you don’t want to be part of such history, do you ?

This piece of software had to come out sooner or later. I wonder how the recording industry will respond to this. Probably, they’ll just go after sites like Last.fm or Pandora this time.

But don’t they pay royalties for streaming music? If so, what’s wrong in saving them to your hard drive? Wouldn’t this be same as recording your local radio station?

Its funny that you relate to Thomas story, you are not sharing the files by just downloading music from internet. If this is the case then i suspect majority of internet users will become pirates according to you

  5. ReviewSaurus says:

@ Thilak : Well, They do pay royalties for streaming music but they don’t pay royalties for people downloading them on their computers. It’s only for live streaming and not for recording them.

If someone records something from these stations then the station has the right to case you guys and not the recording industry directly.

@ Ram : Well, its not funny that I’m relating this to the Thomas story. I’m really talking sense here :) Every internet user is a pirate in some way or the other. Trust me, just look around and with current rules, you’ll realize that we are criminals in one way or the other.

I really dont think Freemusiczilla is a good tool, it hasn’t many features, you have to look for the music you want, it hasn’t ID3 tags….You should try Videoraptor, I find it very useful, it downloads videos and musics for you, has ID3 tags, it is also a converter : http://audials.com/en/audials_one/download_music/index.html

    Gomej,
I looked for this tool on the site you posted and I saw that it can download only from some sites, I cant type a site I’d like????

  8. Gomej says:

Actually, Charl, you can’t type you the site you want, but I still think that the supported sites are enough for finding your desired…
