Guitar Chords Laboratory: the name says it all!
I got my first real six string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it till my fingers bled
Was the summer of 69!
Thus crooned Bryan Adams about his childhood when he first began playing the guitar at 15. You don’t have to wait till you are 15 to learn the six string. Guitar Chords Laboratory offers a wide database of guitar chords, as the title suggests, all in simple graphical interface, so easy to interpret that even kids can learn the guitar easily. It’s an all in all software which allows the user to start playing as soon as the program is installed. It doesn’t even require any previous knowledge of the guitar, though a previous knowledge is always useful to learn fast.
It offers two major options that are badly required by beginners – guitar chords database and a guitar tuner. The chords database is further divided into Full chords library, Basic chords and Advanced chords. The Full chords library offers 20 different known chord under each note, e.g. Twenty chords under the note C ranging from C Maj to C7#5. The Basic chords offers eight chords under each note and this makes this option very useful for beginner who has just unpacked his guitar. The advanced chords option is available only in the paid version.
The guitar tuner is again for the beginner who doesn’t know his way around the fret. It is helpful to tune the guitar. And the tuner offers flexibility to display the tuning for various versions of tuning like Lute tuning and Blues tuning to name a few. Also, the tuner has the option to play each string a number of times (can be varied from 1 to 15 times) and I found this feature to be very useful personally as I tended to forget the strings when I started.
A wide number of options found under the Application Options can be used to vary Chord finding, mute strings, fingering appearance and default note names, though I personally let the default settings stand as they are more than enough for a beginner.
